the Marine Corps still uses the Huey for light-lift transport but they also use the Sea Knight, Sea Stallion and Super Stallion.

Yeah, always hear about those Sea Knights having mechanical problems and crashing around Camp Pendleton during routine exercises :-( .

Is the V-22 thing their standard troop air-transport? To be honest, I haven't seen any in warfront vids...

The first operational MV-22 squadron, the "Thunderchickens" (not making that name up), will see their first combat deployment to Iraq later this year, so there are no "warfront vids" to be seen as of yet.

MV-22 will be replacing the CH-46E Sea Knight (aka "Frog") and the last squadron of CH-53D Sea Stallions in the medium lift role over the next few. Medium lift squadrons form the basis of the air component of an MEU, with elements from light attack (AH-1 and UH-1), heavy lift (CH-53E Super Stallion) and fixed-wing attack (Harrier) attached to reinforce them; so the CH-46E is right now the most numerous helicopter in an MEU and in Marine inventory, so I guess you could say it's their standard air troop transport. Many Marines I have talked to are afraid of them, though. When the Frog is replaced, that title will go to the Osprey.

As mentioned above, Hueys are found in the helicopter light attack squadrons, but are used for just about everything from transport, to C4I to gunship/scout; "utility" is what the "U" stands for.

However, the Marines, like any other US service, will hitch rides (and have done so quite frequently) on the other services helicopters for training and combat ops.

Bizarrely enough, pink can be used as an effective camo colour in the desert. The british army employs pink jeeps, nick-named "pink panthers" for covert desert ops.

Thanks Eddie. So the Huey is the USMC's light attack/hauling chopper, the Sea Knight is their troop transport (for now) and the Harrier (and AFAIK the JSF) is their fixed wing attack planes, right? Is the cobra their main attack chopper?

And will .7 bring in "correct" air cover for the USMC? That is, no more F-16's (which they don't field)?

All of the above are correct. :) They also fly F/A-18Cs and Ds as their strike fighters (multirole), EA-6Bs for electronic warfare and KC-130s for transport/aerial refueling.

Hopefully; the model for an F/A-18 is there, it's just a matter of map placement. USAF F-16s will still be on Army/USAF maps, though.

The 4th C is "Computers."

The JSF is not completely replacing the F-18s in the Navy, the Super Hornets are there to stay. I believe it will be the same way in the Marines, and they will eventually get some Super Hornets in their strike fighter squadrons, possibly the ones that fly F/A-18Ds (the only units that fly them in a combat / strike fighter capacity).

I really hope the devs up the power of that chain gun. BH's are not exactly super common, and it's hard to destroy anyone with the guns on the move, so why not make it really powerful like it is in real life? Anyone using it as a gun ship is going to be murdered by anything missile-like.

The M134 on the H-60 in Project Reality is being replaced by the M240, so I guess we won't need to worry about how ineffective the minigun is.

I vote for a CH47 replacement for the SeaHawks.

Seriously--how cool would it be to have a giant Chinook land and drop off a Humvee or something?

Since a Chinook cannot carry a HMMWV internally, it would defeat the purpose of the title.

the black hawks being used in iraq actually look to be OD green from these pics

of course it could just be these 2 choppers that are OD green, but if we changed the black hawk to any color id want it this one.
