[Question] Product placement in BF2?

Post by Graeme C »

Hi Guys!

Im Graeme and im doing my Masters disertation on the effectiveness of product placement in Videogames. Im wondering if you guys could help me, im hoping to make or modify a BF2 map and somehow add the folllowing.

• Hording i.e. signs on walls and buildings (like coca-cola or starbucks)
• Objects- like a burnt out Ferrari
• T-shirt’s- change uniform top, and make them wear a nike tshirt or a 80s smiley face.
• Audio ads, radio ads- like on forgotten hope music played when you walked into a room.

I have used 3d Max before and am willing to create buildings and objects if i have to. I dont have unlimited time however, and just want to create a basic map with the product placements on it.

I have tried to create my own map in the bf2 editor but it keeps crashing when i try and load it up, is there a way of copying and editing one of the maps that is in the vanilla bf2? or even a Project reality map?

If any of you guys can tips and recommendations i would be very grateful! :-P

the easiest thing to do would be to edit the omage files for the signs and stuff that are already on the buildings and change them to the images you want..

how to do it:

unpack your objectsclient.zip and poke around in the staticobjects folders unitl you find the image files you need (they are all in texture folders)

once you find the image you can edit it and repack it in the objectclient.zip

(be sure to back up so you can change back!)

then load the level with the static which uses that texture sheet and viola..changed signs..

He forgot to mention that the civilians on the insurgent maps are wearing Nikes.

Yes. So far, the results seem to indicate that:

a: people wearing Nikes get shot more often
b: they run slower than everyone else, which leads to them being knifed from time to time

Conclusion: don't wear Nikes, use an AK!

How hard is it to change the uniform tops to smiley faces or nike shirts?

To test the effectiveness of product placement i would run round of a vanilla version of Jalalabad or Karkand.

Then have a modded version for second round with all the placement in it to compare the two.

Is it possible to edit the Jalalabad or Karkand maps and change the buildings, vehicles and stuff?
