Project Reality RAC Bovington Camp Visit

Post by JS.Fortnight.A »

Today we are bringing you a slightly different type of update. Last week members of the Project Reality team met up at the British Royal Armored Corps' Bovington Camp, a British Army base located on the southern coast of England, to become more acquainted with the British Army's weapons and armoured vehicles.

The visit was arranged and planned by our very own [R-DEV]UK_Force, an active Light Dragoon Staff Sergeant in the British Army. Not only did he plan every part of the visit, but he also arranged for Soldier Magazine, the British Army's official magazine, to accompany us during the first day. They are planning a two page spread review of Project Reality in their upcoming September issue, so make sure you get your hands on a copy! All together, eleven Project Reality team members were privileged enough to go on this amazing visit, including: [R-DEV]Dr. Rank, [R-DEV]e-Gor, [R-DEV]JS.Fortnight, [R-DEV]Matrox, [R-DEV]Rhino, [R-DEV]Stigger, [R-DEV]Sim, [R-DEV]UK_Force, [R-PUB]MrD, [R-MOD]DarkPowder, and [R-MOD]Thunder.

During the visit, the team was able to get up close and personal with the British Army's entire arsenal. We climbed inside multiple vehicles and handled various small arms at the armory, all the while gaining invaluable in-sight on how they function and operate from the real-life soldiers who use them everyday. The team was even granted access to use some of the vehicle training simulators!

While we had a blast socializing face-to-face with our fellow team members, the visit was not all about fun and games. A tremendous amount of research was done on all of the equipment we were granted access to. Detailed notes were taken on the real life characteristics of each vehicle/weapon and in total over 3GB of reference photos were taken. All of this research will be applied to make any assets we include in future releases of Project Reality, as well as assets already included in the mod, more detailed and realistically accurate.

At the end of the second day, we managed to squeeze in a trip over to the tank museum at Bovington where we saw various exhibits, going all the way back to the very first experimental tanks of World War I. As you walked though the museum you got to see the evolution of the tanks over time. There are many similarities with modern and old tanks today going from the basic shape, all the way to experimental features on some old tanks.

A big thank you goes out to out to [R-Dev]UK_Force, Soldier Magazine, all of the soldiers at Bovington Camp, and the British Army for having us and making this extraordinary experience possible. All of the research we were able to do will greatly assist us with evolving the Project Reality mod into the most realistic first-person shooter available.

Really Gay Guy

America was a tad late into the First World War. They redeemed themself's and came in slightly sooner in the Second. Now they seem determined to start the Third.

Whole trip rocked to be honest. Still get nightmares about standing next to that Challenger 2 whilst it's starting up. Evening was fun aswell, getting to drink with the team and a few of Uk-Force's friends. Best part had to be seeing the entire of the British Army's vehicle arsenal :D . great trip! Hey Chudley, can you still name us all?
If you can find the four ninjas in my post, pm me to find out the prize....
