Can you make the blackhawk more like the merlin?

Post by DavidP »

This is something thats been bothering me for a long time now, The Blackhawk has 2 door on each side right? Well would it be possible to make them close like the merlins back ramp? I know it would require a whole new model, But can it be done? And if it is implemented will it require a co-pilot?

That defeats the whole purpose of the Blackhawk. You're suppose to be able to see out the sides and shoot. The Merlin is a heavy transport helo.

I very much doubt the USMC fires their M16s out of helicopters too much. It would be nice if we could close the doors, as it'd offer some more protection, and would be just cool by itself (like the ramp on the Merlin). However, the doors are probably part of the whole mesh, so you can't separate them without making a whole new model.

It's probably not worth doing it now. You have a BH in-game already. Maybe as a nice little addition when the majority of Brit and US stuff is done?

Wonder if it's possible to have the soldiers actually seated in the seats of the BH instead of on the sides without changing the model. What was seriously going on in DICE's minds when they were creating these models...

Having closed doors on the Blackhawks in PR would most certainly save you from small arms fire. However, if this was implemented and the pilot is smart, all he has to do is just go into the co pilot position and just open the doors before piloting the Blachawk. It would be cool seeing your team's friendly faces when sitting in the Blackhawk seats though :D

this was done in vietnam.....i doubt it increased the vc body count and it just wasted ammo.

any ways i like this idea to a certin extent,i havent flown the merln or any other chopper besides the littlebird for that matter so i dont know if you can do this in the merlin, back on topic i think the pilot should be able to control the doors opening and closing so if hes dropping his troops off fast the doors would stay open. But if he was taking them some were fairly far i think they might be closed, even thought its unlikely one will get shot out by a infantry men it might still happen and having the closed doors might eliminate this

The reason i'm suggesting this is that in .5 insurgents were smart they aimed for the inside of the blackhawk with the rpg, Half the time they killed the passengers and the other half the rpg went right through.

While in .6 i saw a merlin touching down and my teammate seeing the ramp down pops an rpg killing everyone aboard but leaving the heli alive preventing it from spawning back at base.(Thats why you fly with the ramp closed!)

It would be awesome for protecting the soldiers.(And increase the count to 8 for the needed co-pilot) I dont know if the dev's could code this but if the doors are closed it could change the handling of the chopper a bit.

Well that just leaves the blackhawk on the ground for another 30 seconds till it warms up again.

i do think it would be good for a BH co pilot, this would make the chopper squads on jabal (map with the dam?) allot more usefull.

I assume there's some nasty hardcoded force at work that stops the pilot doing the doors themselves?

Would it be possible to make it so one of the passengers could open and close the doors? Dunno how it works on a Merlin but it'd make sense for the Blackhawk. Could have it so a passenger on each side has control over their side too.

Do the doors actually effect whether people can get out a vehicle or not though? It'd be nice if you had to open the door on an APC for example before you got out so there's a risk of you getting shot before you even get off your arse.

The Merlin ingame doesn't have side doors either.

Yeah I know the Merlin doesn't, didn't notice the Blackhawk didn't though. Thought they were just continually open.

The rides are usually less than a minute so there no point, and remember, you're a transport chopper, not an attack chopper.

Oh yeah course but I've been nailed enough times in those seats to want a little protection, all dependant on how much work this would be in the eyes of the devs, probably lots...

Why would you take a transport helicopter to a place where RPGs wait for you?

BHD reenactments?

Good suggestion actually. Would require a new model but that might be something to look into post 1.0 along with putting M240s on the Bhawk
