How NOT to be a bad passenger on a transport chopper.

I like to give pilots an all-clear signal by the means of the commo rose "Go go go!" command. Basically, once everyone is out of the chopper I use the command to let the pilot know that he can leave. It's especially useful to Merlin pilots, and most pilots seem to understand my intentions without me having to explain what I'm trying to say.

Two more tips: if you think the LB didn't see you...don't try shooting at it to draw the pilot's attention. The four people in it did not like me being headshotted, which led to them crashing to their deaths. Also, when you bail out, go prone instantly. If the chopper does move, that may keep you alive.

Tell me about it. I was flying the MEC light chopper on Kufrah once, and was approaching the landing pad in our base, to repair and rearm. Someone (who shall be left unnamed) was incredibly bored in the base, waiting for a tank, so he shot me with his rifle 3 or 4 times. This resulted in my chopper dropping out of the sky like a rock and blowing up, giving him a TK.dunehunter wrote:Two more tips: if you think the LB didn't see you...don't try shooting at it to draw the pilot's attention. One thing about Merlins, you bail out inside, use the ramp to gtfo, before the pilot moves too much and TKs you.
And note to Merlin pilots; do NOT take off as soon as every passenger leaves their spot inside the chopper.
Happened on open beta, guy sees us leaving the seats and takes off, TKing the whole squad

That was (probably) me.daranz wrote:Tell me about it. I was flying the MEC light chopper on Kufrah once, and was approaching the landing pad in our base, to repair and rearm. Sorry! No excuse for it really

One quick addition though, more for pilots really (just to check the pickup request wasn't retarded) I do a slow flyby of the immediate area using ctrl key and mouse to look around, this gives me an idea of the LZ (if unfamiliar) as well as checking for technicals/AT.
Also I don't care if your scratching your arse and have your hand off the keyboard, gtfo of the damn chopper already!

Same goes for ground transport. Just because you jumped in the HMMV/APC and it didnt leave within 5 seconds, that doesnt mean, its not gonna leave at all...epoch wrote:What really annoys me is when someone gets in the merlin/BH and immediately shouts "GO GO GO!" when clearly other people are running towards it to get in too.

Whenever I wait, people get bored, get out, and then I'm still left 1 person down... Seriously, it gets to the point where I'm like "you could've run around the whole carrier by now..." Time and tide wait for no man.epoch wrote:What really annoys me is when someone gets in the merlin/BH and immediately shouts "GO GO GO!" when clearly other people are running towards it to get in too.
Which reminds me of an occasion where my SL was like "gah, no chopper pilots" - so I'm like "yah, I'll drop us off" - grab pilot kit, get squad in, we're 60ft off the deck and moving and he's like "so you can fly these things?" "Uh, this is the first time I've taken up one of these blackhawks" - "That doesn't sound good" - "Well, I haven't actually crashed one yet either..."
Yah, I dropped them off ok at east beach, picked up some more people to ferry them to west beach, got hit by AA and popped like a balloon pretty quickly...

Trannie choppers (Blackhawk in particular) are my favourite vehicles in the game. If they're being used properly - as serious, costly assets - to ferry around squads, they're bloody brilliant.
On Jabal I've often found a few decent chopper pilots can make all the difference for the USMC. Trouble is, I find I have to wait for an entire spawn cycle for the birds to come back to roost after being taken out or crashed by plonkers.
What I would add is:
If you're in a chopper, and you're at the LZ that's been requested, and the pilot is holding steady at 1m off the deck- bloody well jump out, don't expect him to land on a sheer slope.
Likewise, if the pilot is coming into the LZ you requested and it's flat, for the love of god let him LAND before you jump out- because if you ditch before his skids/wheels hit the deck, you *will* get squashed.

- get ready to press E when you notice the pilot (who is not in your squad [voip]) is going to land, so you can hop out as soon as he hits the ground... and don't wait for the pilot eventually having to say ''bail out''.
It has been too many times people wait too long to hop out and ending up me being shot out of the air.
