Mostly jets get animal names for the US. Hornet, Eagle, Falcon, Raptor, Warthog, etc.

But like any other army, they name their things after generals, military commanders, sometimes presidents, etc.

in the US Ships are always named after either : States,Admirals,Presidents,and Star Trek

Example: The Texas, or The Roosevelt, USS Enterprise.

But Space Bering vessels are usually named after cool things, things of knowledge are named after scientist, and a space shuttel is named after once again :Star Trek

and we name our Battleships after Counties and areas of Great Britain
HMS Cornwall, HMS Southampton......etc although there is one exception to that, and it is HMS VICTORY...

Cronwall's a frigate isn't she? And we don't have any active battleships afaik.

HMS Victory was named in 1765, when the location naming system wasn't in place, so you got ships like Indefatigible, Intrepid etc etc

Acually She was first called L'Enterprise, she was a French ship.

(of course)She was in service for only 2 (1705-1707) years before being seized.

But now the name belongs to an american vessel.

Black Hawk is not a tribe, but a chief. But he fought against the Americans (white ones, anyway) both in 1812 (woohoo!) and in the Black Hawk Wars. Wikipedia's an incredible thing when you set out to prove someone wrong

the official designation of the UH-1 is the Iroquois and that's why I used the word "most" because most is not ALL, the cobra is the exception and well...black hawk...minor technical detail.

I think the us army have to take more profit from his movie stars...I mean instead using names from generals that the enemy sure doesnt know, they will fright the enemy better using for example....
a Rambo tank...or an arnold nuclear missile..or .norris bomber ....the list could be very long....
