Vista Fix

Post by Erasius »

many players ( including me )
have windows vista, and will buy vista to support their high-end PC's.
people want to able to use Dx10 for future games and you need Vista for it.
now BF2 works perfectly with Vista, even better then with XP , but as many have noticed, PR doesn't work on Vista.

All Vista users get the same error, a huge FPS drop.
I have been able to play PR, But not for long.
most of the times I cant play because of the FPS drop, but Today i was able to play 1 round... then it went back to desktop shutting down PR.
after that iI tried to play again, but it didn't work... same FPS problems.

So what I suggest is a PR patch for Vista users.( or something else that fixes it )

people tell me to install XP next to vista, but not everyone has the money to buy Xp... after they bought a New pc with Vista..
( i mean damn! even a freaking OEM version of XP cost more then 100 Euro's :S )

have you tryed to start PR in compatibility mode?

Frankly, since theres no proper DX10 games out, atleest not ones that uses that dx10 as they shud how about downgrade from Vista to XP?

Take a look at this topic:
http://realitymod.com/forum/t24388-extr ... ngame.html

Lots of ppl with high-end vista systems having (extreme) trouble with PR while BF2 runs great on the same settings.

Why would you want to downgrade to XP? Vista handles pretty much all games, even the older engines like UT, UT2004, HL1, source, etc etc... Hell even Battlefield2, its just PR thats an issue for me. (sadly had to go back to XP just to play)

Oh and for the users with Vista Business there is a downgrade solution from Microsoft.

What a great foundation for an utterly useless comment :-x

If you're going to start blurting stuff out, next time post some valid arguements if you want anyone to take you serious.

Things I would say about my system running Vista;

+ 15% performance increase in 3dmarks06 (same driver versions)
+ Proper dual-core usage
+ Clean mediacenter interface and decent support for TV tuners.
+ Aero interface
+ Backup to image (Business and Ultimate)
+ Good looking desktop
+ DX10 (as well as 100% DX9 support)
+ Better power management
+ UAC (User Account Control, security)
+ Vista ready boost to speed things up (and YES this actually works)

- OS load time
- RAM usage (but no trouble with 2GB or more)
- Creative EAX support not as good as in XP (yet)

im sorry to be the one that needs to reveal you that Vista is now what ME was to XP.

Just a transition OS untill proper nextgen Microsoft OS comes out in 2 years (cant remember proper codename, revealed after Longhorn...).

Both users and Microsoft know that so they set DX10 as an Vista only in hope to move up the sales, and it seems that it works... (sadly).

Simply not true.
Vista, previously codenamed longhorn, has been in development since the end of 2002.
Next release will def not be in 2 years. Do remember that XP is 6 years old.

And dont try blaming the current PR/Vista issues on the OS. BF2 runs great, if not better than XP on a highend system.

hmm..so you are saying that PR works fine on XP. No problems. PR doesn't work on Vista. Huge FPS drop & crashing which make it unplayable. So what do you blame if not the OS?

As for the whole vista sucks thing, the only reason I'd ever concider getting vista is dx10 but then again I don't have the money to get a dx10 card so I'll be sticking with XP. I don't see any reason for me to upgrade. Some like Vista, some don't. I'm with the ones who don't.

vista is bad for games. i had to re-install my new pc with my old copy of XP.

yeah its more secure and stable but games that need 800MB in XP need 1.4GB in vista.

and remember the 2GB limit of windows 32bit, any application that exceeds this will crash

astalavista vista, you are bloated

I think it's not the fault of PR. You know, at first, BF2 have the same problem in Vista Beta. Then a Vista patch made BF2 perfect, along with a list of other games.
The BF2 modification process has nothing to do with the OS actually. It's hard for modder to find and even solve problems caused by OS.
Only microsoft can solve that, I think.

Well couple of things here. PR was developed for BF2, the system specs for BF2 require windows XP. I have a friend who has Win 2000 and wants to play BF2, but he can't because his OS isn't supported. PR is a mod for a game designed to run on XP. PR is more demanding then vBF2 and people who could run vanilla in XP had performance issues in PR while still running XP. Switching to Vista, which has been shown in benchmarks to the run exact same games slower, will only make things worse. Vista is getting better but I believe it is a huge resource hog and requires of 4GB ram instead of the normal 2GB ram of XP. PR 0.7 is supposed to be a polishing up release from what I have read, this could help for all users. However the game engine is from the XP era and the Devs are not obligated in any way to support Vista. Nor may BF2 mods work well in Vista period, not just PR.

i was lucky enough to have a copy of vista and xp, its a horrible OS

and these are the 4 problems ive had so far
its locks up every time i insert a disk, meaning i had to restart every time i wanted to play a new game.

its made for idiots, and the naviagtion is horribly complex and backwards.

its desktop looks and feels like its made of soft candy and full off usless things like the weather in canada.

installing nvidia soundcard drivers causes it to brake my vista key, meaning i have to reinstall every 30 days or have no sound.

I haven't had any problems with Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
It works better then XP on my old PC.

I can play every game, on full graphics, Without any problems at all ( even old games )

My 8800GTX runs great on it... I can't say anything negative about it ( yet... since i have the new PC for about 4 days now )

I only have problems with PR.
Vista Used to have problems ( that was at the time it was released )

but now things have changed, 3Dmark proves that Vista is Better.

But now back on topic.

Some people said that PR 0.7 will be able to run on Vista... is this a rumour? or is it for real?
how long will it take , before 0.7 is released?

^^ I guess me and many other Vista Users want to play PR, because well... Bf2 retail sucks compared to PR :P

PR works with Vista and XP. One thing we cannot do is set the installer to install as XP SP2 compatibility and as Administrator, that's up to you.

Did you read THIS?

Specifically,
Section 1: BEFORE YOU START...

*note2* VISTA USERS: If you have recently upgraded to Vista, for some reason certain maps can lag\delay so badly that it cannot be played. It is not the the server, the problem is with the operating system. The solution is to run BF2 and PR in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode and as Administrator. Thanks to Fragsome for this information.
