RQ-11 Raven

Post by Pantera »

Weighing in at four and a half pounds with a five-foot wingspan and stretching a mere 38 inches in length, the Raven is by far one of the smallest vehicles in the Army, but its aerial reconnaissance value has quickly earned the respect of battalion commanders in Iraq and has filled a niche at the battalion level when larger UAVs are unavailable. Though not as large or capable as some tactical UAVs, the Raven provides units with a tremendous live-coverage capability previously available only at higher levels of command.

Maybe we can have the Raven for the US Army if it gets introduced?

It can only be used by the Commander and can be requested by SLs and Squad Members.

Maybe the commander screen can be replaced with the view of the "live footage" rather than being able to do that god like zoom.

And the information can then be relayed onto squads.

Or a solution could be to have a SUAS Kit (only 1 per squad?) that has the small aircraft and once "thrown" it enters the camera view and it can be controlled by the player via remote control?

General Characteristics
Primary Function: Situational awareness and direct target information
Power Plant: Electric Motor, rechargeable lithium ion batteries
Wingspan: 4.5 ft (1.37 meters)
Weight: 4.2 lbs (1.9 kilograms)
GCU weight: 17 lbs (7.7 kilograms)
Speed: 30-60 mph (26-52 knots)
Range: 8-12 km (4.9-7.45 miles)
Endurance: 60-90 minutes
Operating Altitude: 150-500 ft Air Ground Level (AGL) (45-152 meters)
Payload: High resolution, day / night camera and thermal imager

I wouldnt mind having a go at making it since its so small

That is nice.
It would be a nice addition but should be subject to strict asset placement rules to make it a huge advantage to those willing to jump through the hoops to get it.
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

Raven's are launched from inside the FOB, or OP. They are actually pretty damn nifty, useful little UAV's. They also fall out of the sky at a rather alarming rate. I can't count how many times we had to react on QRF to go find some stupid RC plane in the middle of a city/desert.

Kenwayy always cracks me up because he's either telling people they're wrong or telling us something bad about his job. God bless.

I also love the way you called it an RC place as if it was a childs toy :p

Have you ever seen one? Its a RC plane with a giant camera and antenna slapped on it. Cool wings that collapse upon impact so it can basically slam into anything and be okay.

Oh..... that thing. I thought you meant the Predator.... ooopsy. I was gonna say, if they keep crashing the US must have a few secret pots of gold.

And Kenwayy, I meant you crack me up in a nice way :p It always seems like you're having a go.

Didn't mean they got shot down, just that the controller would lose connection or something and it'd fall from its own accord. It's SUPPOSED to fly back to its starting point, yeah, THAT happens.

I know, neither am I, but I thought it was a good setup for a punchline. The "'ur" is supposed to be "our" with a halfassed Irish accent. :)
