Artillery smoke round suggestion
Maybe this has been suggested before. If so then I apologize. I feel the need to bring it up since we now have such large maps with wide open danger areas. How about giving the commander two options for arty shells. One High Explosive round and one SMOKE round. That way a squad or squads could call for the commander to smoke up an entire wide open "danger area" so that the squads could cross and assault the objective. Not to mention that is could also be used as a very large diversion tactic.
Like I said, I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but it would be really cool and "realistic" to have this option for the commander to support his troops. Not to mention that something like this is "really needed" now with the addition of all the large maps with wide open spaces. Maps like Seven Gates, Kashan Desert.
Using Arty Smoke fire missions to setup a smoke screen would be great for Infantry troops to be able to cross danger areas, and reach objectives without being cut to bits by sniper tanks, and other assets. I think it would also add more teamwork, cause Infantry squads would have to work with the commander to get this done. They would have to communicate and coordinate with the commander to get the timing right. What do ya think Devs, is something like this possible?

I can't remember if tanks can fire smoke tank rounds. I don't think there is such a thing as a smoke round for tanks to fire, but I could be wrong. I don't remember seeing or using tank smoke rounds. Now 120mm Mortars DO have smoke rounds, but we don't have mortars so.... what's the point..:iGi:. Tank shells would be ideal as they can be placed very accurately.
Smoke rounds FTW

Only thing that would we need to be done to add this is create a new weapon, basically a duplicate of arty, but change the tweak file to shoot smoke rounds, and then it would have to be added to each map as a static object and then as a "vehicle". Only difficult thing re-doing the commander screen. Not to much work for a very useful thing.

I would think that it would be just a bit simplier than that.Superior Mind wrote:Only thing that would we need to be done to add this is create a new weapon, basically a duplicate of arty, but change the tweak file to shoot smoke rounds, and then it would have to be added to each map as a static object and then as a "vehicle". But I don't know squat about modding so I'll just shut up before I look like a fool commenting on things I have very little knowledge of

They got a mortar system that chucks out smoke rounds. I remember a thread about the new release in the offtopics and a video posted about it, you should go search for it.Rico11b wrote:Does POE2 have that in there for real? I haven't played POE2 for over a year or so now. They didn't have anything like that when I played it. If they did then I never saw it used. Do they have it? I may go check them out.

Tanks have used smoke rounds as spotter rounds for ground attack aircraft since at least Vietnam, that's the earliest mention of it's use in that capacity that I've read of. So if they were firing smoke in the 60s then certainly they should still have such rounds, however, laser designators are obviously the preferred choice but smoke rounds can be used for screening as well.Rico11b wrote:I can't remember if tanks can fire smoke tank rounds. That's news to me, I haven't heard anything about a mortar system. That would take a while though for one or two guys to cover an area with mortar when the commander arty could just rain it down the same way as it does now, but with smoke rounds.ReaperMAC wrote:They got a mortar system that chucks out smoke rounds. Managed to find the vid on youtube, check it out. It may take a while to cover a certain, specific area, with smoke since it may take a while to get the right angle to land in that area. It is effective though.Rico11b wrote:That's news to me, I haven't heard anything about a mortar system.
