Going back to the 7.62x51mm round would defeat most of the advantages assault rifles provide. What I think we need is either improved 5.56x45mm ammo such as what the Mk.262 is supposed to be to be or something like that 6.8x43mm ammunition.
Just so you guys know while the standard rifle of the Marines is the M16A4 they do use the M4A1 (not the regular M4) and issue them to officers, corpsmen, and some other soldiers.
I have already mentioned this is a few times but in my opinion the three round burst is an unneeded feature we carried over from the 1980s that we should have gotten rid of awhile ago. The military may want to dump it with our next series of weapons considering how the XM8 and other designs that have been tested or are being tested as possible replacements for the M16/M4 have full auto instead of the three round burst.

How do you know this? And what are the "other soldiers"?Lampshade111 wrote:Just so you guys know while the standard rifle of the Marines is the M16A4 they do use the M4A1 (not the regular M4) and issue them to officers, corpsmen, and some other soldiers.
I believe Rangers do deploy alongside marines, so it's not too much of a stretch to have a kit representing them.
Unfortunately, the only solid reason I could see to not make an armored M4A1 kit available is that it would get picked up by a lot of "noobs." To that I say "So what?" The solution is to model the ballistics and to design maps so that both weapons have their place. If someone picks the wrong weapon for the job they should get killed.

I would like to see them too. Isn't .7 going to bring in a crud load of air based improvements too?[R-DEV]eggman wrote:Probably a few of them .. we'll post em up sometime.
There are 2 things that would be the "critical path" for v0.7:
M16 family for USMC
Mortars for all factions
I suppose we can live without mortars, but I'd really, really like to see them make the next major release.

I did some more digging and found this from a board for USMC veterans:
So there you have it. With the maps we have I would think the platoon in game would qualify to have M4A1s available for use.[Question from a new recruit:]
"I was wondering, i see some marines with m4a1's and some with m16's, what i the deal with this cause i thought that the m4a1 was used only by seals and recon units."
[Answer:]
"this m4 only used by seal and recon myth is bs. whoever told you that should be slapped. the m4 is used by a lot, if not most infantry Marines in Iraq. 1.) its lighter, 2.) more capable at close range, and since you're dealing with urban warfare you need to worry more about close range combat 3.) it has a shorter barrel and collapsable buttstock, so when you're patrolling down streets, or in searching houses, the muzzle of your rifle is less likely to stick out around a corner as you maneuver..."
"...My platoon alone was issued 14 m4a1 rifles in Iraq. A platoon that contained 26 Marines. Ok, lets break it down barney style.
26 - 14 = 12 ---- 12<14
That makes it a majority. "Majority" being the keyword. Now I know my platoon wasnt the only one like that. I'm not gonna say that the majority of my company or battalion had m4's that would be a flat out lie. But to say very few Marine Infantryman carry the m4 is like saying very few recruits carry canteens."
"Most Infantrymen are issued A4's the replacement for a2. We had m4's and the only ones who got those were Marines in vehicles in weapos Company. Our CO, 1st Sgt, and the Gunny got m4's also. You know the guys that really needed them because they were doing so much of the house clearing. In any case my unit didnt have too many m4s even though you really wanted them because they were light weight , and had shorter barrels wich easy to get in hummers and also best for clearing homes..."

It's a pitty we can't use the unlock system to give players the option of either one on the USMC team.
EDIT: Maybe make 2 kits or something; Remove the shovel/ammo from the Rifleman kit and call it "Entry Rifleman" or something. Maybe add in a single flash bang, if regular troops ever even see those.

I told you guys that the M4s for the regular infantry and M4A1s for the special forces rule no longer applies. Well at least in the Marine Corp.Zybon wrote:I did some more digging and found this from a board for USMC veterans:

Well not to be an arse but it's his perception of the situation. How many 10's of thousands of soldiers are over there? He may have been observing a few hundred that had some access to the M4's where for the most part they were still widely not in use.Zybon wrote:I know, I was looking for hard evidence. A testimonial from a marine is hard to debate.
I'm not saying that this marine is not correct but one single soldier stating that the marines use the M4 as much as the M16 needs a bit more supporting evidince, no? Not trying to say I know whats best but just that we need more info before making this change.

Anyone who looks around game-artist.net (req's newish game artist site thats really lifting off) may find out one of the new toys, made by a really good modeller (and now skinner) who frequents that site regularly. I remember him for working on the Black Mesa Source mod. It's a seriously good piece of kit, and looks to be one of our best models so far. Now, not going to say much more as that would be telling, and would get me in loads o' trouble!
If you can find the four ninjas in my post, pm me to find out the prize....
