Physics thought...

Post by gnwbumblino »

Hi chaps,

Just wondering....

Is the 'Rag-Doll' physics something you can be switched off????

I was just thinking to myself, just how much I hated it, then wondered the obvious!

(Other people must have noticed the minute - but irritating - pause between something happening & the physics catching up??)

Please dont say that this is my hardware spec.... I've seen the same thing happening on my brothers rig - and that's almost as powerful as George Bushs' index finger. Just not quite that powerful! ;)

Thanks,

Andy

But how could it be? I dont think BF2 even have death animations. Without ragdoll, what would the soldiers do when they die? Turn into scarecrows? ;-)

Is it possible to make bodies heavier? Its stupid to see people fly about like they are made of rags.

I like the way ragdoll works but its too exagerated by what seems to be not enough weight, if thats even a variable.

Agreed. Don't get rid of ragdoll completely, wtf, lol. That's a no no in this day and age.

I would have hoped this is possible...

I'd be really interested to see the effect of it being off!!!

The ragdoll just needs improving thats all, BF2 doesn't have good ragdoll but it would be good enough if it was tweaked to be more realistic. Oh and I don't get a pause between anything.

Anybody know how to tweak the ragoll? If anyone has some spare time, add more weight to ragdoll physics or try taking them out and see what happens.
If PR plans on tweaking them, it might not show up until the actual mod release, which is quite a ways away.

There are non ragdoll death animations in BF2. You can find them in the BF2 editor, screwing around with the animations. Anybody rmember the first BF2 vid? The part where an insurgent on top of a building is shot, he drops to his knees, falls foward and then flips off the building with ragdoll, this animation and many others are in there.

It seems like the original idea was to have death animations that would last for about 1.5 seconds, and then the ragdoll would kick in afterwards, but that has been scrapped.

I heartily reccomend that PR make use of these death animations if possible, they are so much more realistic than people's heads snapping a yard backwards after a bullet hits them.

Wow, the game looks so good in the video. How the hell did EA/Dice F'up so bad?

Anyways, that knee drop animation happens twice. On the building and when the soldier is facing the tank while the other dives. After the 1.5, his body flies. I would like to see what the other animations look like if there are any.

Good find.

I can't stand death animations, seeing the same thing all the time gets boring. CoD2 suffered from this but they did put effort into it.

Its a shame looking back at that Vid there are sooo many cool things scraped from the original builds

I love ragdoll physics lol. I once sniped some guy climbing a ladder who fell about 50 feet and landed on 2 of his buddies... BAM 3 kills for me  Ragdoll makes the game realistic.

Good man. Keep the ragdoll, but try to improve it, like, by making the models have more weight.

NO TO DEATH ANIMATIONS! that is soooo 1996.
