you people really need to brush up on history and current events,
right now the iraqi army has t55s, t62s and t72s as well as old apcs left over from the saddam years, and they make up the armor divisions of the iraq army. so its not like they had to be brought in secretly or anything.
alot of the insurgents were in the old iraq army and republican guard, thats why so many know how to operate weapons, snipe, operate vehicles etc. so obviously you are gonna have insurgents who can operate tanks etc. especially since the saddam era iraq army had literally thousands of tanks and apcs that had to be crewed before we destroyed a good percentage of them.
and since bf2 and PR are set in the near future, probaby after a partial US withdrawal and total meltdown of the inept iraq government, i dont think its unrealistic at all to think the insurgents would have atleast a few armored vehicles they either captured from the iraq army or members of the iraq army joined the insurgency with theyre tanks. it says so in the mission briefing. now whether the insurgents think they stand a chance with t55s against abrams, well thats a whole different story.
the taliban had tanks well before sept 11th, they captured them from the russians during the afghan soviet war of the 80s. the chechens had tanks, they also captured them from the russians, both are very rag tag armies so i never found it unrealistic for the insurgents to have them on Al basrah. in fact i miss them. i miss alot of things about .5 al basrah oh well....
