Engineers c4

Post by PIMP{UK}1 »

Is there any chance of making the plant c4 button the right mouse button, then the detonation button left mouse button.

Im forever killing myself by clicking twice by accident.

Am I the only one?

I rather see, that you have to manually switch to the detonator, so it prevents the double click suicide.

Sounds sensible.

I would imagine it is possible.

Would it mean we could detonate the C4 while it was still in our hands? :-)
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Probably not seeing as we can pull the pin on a grenade and hold onto it forever before throwing it.

We can have the character hold the C4 in his left hand, and the detonator in the right hand. When he runs out of C4, he simply holds the detonator in view.

I think it would also make more sens to throw the C4 with the left mouse button and blow it with the right in this example.

Is engineer C4 in game powerful enough for the amount he's holding?

You can also do so in real life. When you pull the pin,you still have the handle. As long as you don't release the handle, you can hold that thing for a long, long time. I have heard you can even put the pin back inside, but I'm not sure with this.

But anyway: Although I never had problems with blowing myself up (ok,sometimes I do it deliberately, i.e. when we need this APC down and out fast as Insurgents) it sounds like a good idea that might even be possible to code and would definitely not hurt if brought ingame.

Ever seen the film, "We Were Soldiers Once, and Young"? Well it's based (very accurately) on the book of the same name, based on the memoirs of then-Colonel Harold Moore, and describes the pretty disasterous battle his battalion got into at the start of the fighting against the NVA in the '60s.

During the opening few hours the platoons got very separated, and over the next two days there was a lot of scattered yet intense fighting. Each night, his troops could hear the North Vietnamese infantry walking through the jungle and shooting wounded Americans. One guy (a sergeant if I remember rightly) was wounded and left well outside the US lines. He knew that if he was found alive, he'd be shot.

So, he pulled a grenade out, removed the pin, and wedged it under his armpit with the handle depressed. He figured that if a NVA soldier examined his body to check if he was alive, either the guy would move his arm or he could himself, the handle would flick and they'd both go out together. If he died and a NVA tried to check his body for valuables, the same would happen.

Only, he survived the night and the next day his company and reinforcements pushed back and recaptured the ground that his section had been in - so yeah, he pushed the pin back in (he'd kept hold of it just in case, the sensible chap), and was evac'd out.

Moral of the story: If you *are* going to booby-trap your own body with a grenade, make sure you keep a-hold of the pin...

I am aware of the handle on the grenade, I was referring to the BF2 engine. You can't go grenade suiciding like in Call of Duty. (For reasons I probably know why.)

The pin in a grenade simply holds the long metal tab (labeled striking lever also called the "spoon") in place thus preventing the spring from striking the percussion cap at the bottom. Once this cap is struck the fuse will burn and the grenade will pop in 3-5 seconds. As long as the spoon doesn't pop off after the pin is removed, the grenade will not explode.

I'd defiantly like to see some grenade cooking. Maye America's Army style by pulling grenade back to throw by holding primary and releasing the spoon with secondary fire.

The fact it misses out an entire battalion and features and entirely fictional bayonet charge is beside the point.
