Squad leaders need more fun

Post by Oddsodz »

This just might be a my 1st post. Yeppeeaa

Anyway. So I have been playing 0.6 the last few days. I Have come to the thinking that beaning the Squad leader is no fun. You spend haft the time trying to get your squad together to set rally points and then you when you do, You can't just go and get a new kit to play with because you might need to set a new rally point and so need to have the "Officer kit". So how can we make it more fun/attractive to be the squad leader? Well I would like to say ARTY. If I remember rightly (and I could be wrong). In .05 there was arty but only squad leaders could call it in. No commander could drop arty if he wanted it. He had to rely on Squad leaders calling arty. There is no ARTY in .06 (again I could be wrong). But if you was to give back arty to the Squad leaders. It just might sweetie the deal. Oh ,But make the recharge time very long. I Don't want to get bombed to death all the time lol

What do you think?

errrrrrrr...... Squad leader is to lead, not to snipe,SAW or AT.

errrrrrr..... six squads, one long respawning arty? I forsee arguements and wasted arty strikes.

and forthe love of god use the search function, artillery has been suggested countless times.

If you don't find being SL fun, it's because you can't lead.

Have a nice day.

it takes no time for me to set up a rally point, all you do is set a move order to where abouts you want to set it up and tell your squad over VOIP to get there asses over there so you can set one up. 80% of the time your squad members do it, if they dont, I kick them strait out of the squad, they soon learn and makes your other squad members respect you more too ;)

I think your main complaint is that the officer only really gets a AR for his main weapon, where you would want a support gunner or w/e, my advice would be not to play as a squad leader if you want another weapon for now thou maybe might be something we could try and look into for the future for having maybe more type of officer kits with slightly diffrent weapon layouts. :)

EDIT: fog god sakes Vikingo, calm down the search function aint working at the mo due to use getting a new search tool into the forums, and your continuously spam to new members must be really, really off putting to them. I dunno if you are trying to look like your are a forum moderator or w/e but please do not act like you are trying to be one.

I don't know what you're talking about, I love playing SL. Maybe you're just not looking for the true leading role? All I do as an SL is tell people to move here, there and attack.

And certain maps do have arty.

the most satisfying thing about being a squad leader u cant add to the game , its just kicking *** in a squad all using VOIP all having a great time and teamwork through the roof!!!!! also leading a squad of new players to get best squad is awesome , and just generally helping the team , that's what's so good about being squad leader, u don't need any fancy gadgets

Better but still doesn't make sense. How about "If you don't enjoy leading a squad is because you are not a born leader"

EDIT: Op if you want to have fun as a squad leader do what i do. Put your weapon on single shot stay the fuck back and cover your squad members as they move up.(Or spot targets with your soflam like i do)

Squad leader should have more options to co-operate with armour , helos , jets and commander. Ability to point airstrikes with smoke\icon on the minimap is must have , imo . More variety of signal smokes would be good aswell . And of cource , SL definitely needs an ability to call for arty strikes on certain maps .

Most fun I've ever had in PR has been leading VOIP infantry squads, I really don't see any problem here.

squad leaders are awesome, officer kits? FLASHBANGS! oh yes and 3 field dressings so you can bring yourself back to life from the brink, or at a bunker/car med spam your squad.

Also leading has its own charm when people actualy follow, which i've seen they tend to.

when worst comes to worst? you could always just grab kits off the fallen, you kill the enemy hat gunner? SHINIES! and remember, the longer you sit on that gun? the easier your teams tanks lifes are :)

in general scavenging the dead is great, makes you adaptable and harder to react to. kill an engineer? use his c4 to pop a bridge or lay a roadside bomb.

I love to lead and guide others, so being squad leader is satisfaction enough for me. Anyways, I really don't think that we want our squad leaders being people who took the job just so they could call artillery. We want the guys who enjoy being a leader and who don't mind having an awful KD ratio, as long as their squad is making an impact on the game.

Yeah I usually die within 10 seconds of spawning on a squad leader.

The main reason I go squad leader 90% of the time is this. If I don't take the job, someone less suited to it will and my team will suffer for it.

I'm not a legendary squad leader, not even a great one. However I keep my squad together, attack and defend the important locations and specify kits when required. VOIP is not required, though I appreciate it when it is used. And I will ***** out someone who did not report an enemy force in my AOR. I set rally points. Other than that, I let my guys do what they think is best in the area I am defending/attacking.

Even with this haphazard squad leadership I usually grab the best squad award. This is because most squads are leaderless. I hate to say it, butr there is a major squad leader shortage right now. I wish I did not have to go SL, I love fighting under a capable leader. I don't know if more SL only abilities will draw more able men to the SL position. What more could they get that rewards them, not only for being SL, but for being an organized SL? I suppose winning is the only reward. Kit rewards tend to draw people to the role who want it merely for these perks.

I lead well but normally get stuck with players who don't listen. Kicking them doesn't seem to help either.
