Now we are all friendly with our knifes ect but i was wondering if its possible to make other forms of combat such as just using your hands to punch or feet to kick, it would be great for taking out those doors that need to be exploded and usually get you or your teammates killed.

I'm sure we would all love this, right? Also it would be nice to be able to use our guns as mele weapons to hit down doors or subdue civilians? Punching a civilian and making him fall to the ground would be fun and also easier to capture (i presume PR will be getting handcuffs or some sort of restraint for capturing civilians in the near future).

Punching an enemy could stun him, hit him in the face he could get blurry vision? He could fall to prone? Get knocked back? Its certainly realistic cause if you suddenly run out of a clip and you have an enemy standing in front of you your general reaction isn't to reload its to take him out. And holstering your gun and unstrapping your knife or pistol wouldn't be your first choice. Hitting him hard with your gun would be the quickest and most realistic option.

Cant see any obvious reasons why this would be a bad idea, open to criticism though!

Punches, kicks, rifle butt-strokes, entrenching tools and other close combat weapons have been suggested before.

But were they given any official reply or considered to be implemented? I don't see why it could be a bad idea unless theres some sort of engine difficulties. Those doors you have to blow are so messy and being able to stun someone by hitting them in the face with your fist/rifle would be realistic.

I'm pretty confident that there will be a handcuff weapon for capturing civilians implemented later on because after all this is reality mod and stabbing a civilian is just as bad as shooting him, right?

AFAIK, Secondary attacks on weapons are impossible.

What about the switch from auto to single/burst? Surely you could make it switch to melee, that would work right?

EDIT: Additional info, if my above suggestion wouldn't work then you could just make a separate weapon which is the gun but only to melee with, like the grenade launchers.

Yes, they were, in fact they were being considered during the initial development of the mod before the public forums, but larger things took precedent. Nobody has said it was a bad idea, just discussed before (see threads I PMed you and read through them), which is why the topic was locked.

Not a handcuff weapon, but something other than a knife; you may or may not like it. And since the knife is right now the only close combat weapon in game, and we can't do MGS3 or Dead to Rights style disarms, throws and takedowns due to engine limitations, it is the closest thing to an unarmed apprehension we have right now.

I believe that has also been tried, and not just by our coders. If it could work, I would have loved to be able to switch between a standard or reverse grip for the knives, with primary fire being slash and secondary being thrust (standard) or overhead stab (reverse).

Well thanks for the info Eddie, and now that the subject has been brought to light again maybe we will see something like it in one of the future versions! :)

I believe he just said they have tried but could not get it working.

It would be awesome though to bash them annoying civilians who run into your rounds all the time becasue they can't be killed by bullets.

I didn't mean those heavy steel doors, that would be stupid. I meant the wooded ones that look like they have been boarded up, cause in reality theres no way you would use a C4 charge on some old planks of wood...

I would definitely use a c4 charge on old planks of wood. I wouldn't punch them cause I might get slivers and slivers hurt really bad. Plus I like blowing sh*t up. If your team mates are stupid enough to stand next to a c4 charge with a big red cross bones then they deserve to get blown up along with the obstacle that is being blown.
