I have played PR off and on for about 1 year. I have to say that the community in PR (for the most part) is very snobby and non-supportive to new or newer players. I am not by any means a beginner, but because I do not play this alot (about 1 round per day average), I still have much to learn. Part of learning is making mistakes and poor judgements. I think if PR wants to survive it should dedicate some servers to beginners or novices because alot of players and clans that play PR are just really..well...(INPUT WORD OF CHOICE HERE). Its not just me, I talk to alot of clans that play RVS, AA and BF2,..alot say the same thing. "PR is a really good game, but man are people mean." I have been rudely booted off of servers, squads and called alot of really lame things via VoiP. I invite anyone who wants to call me names because I accidently tk to join me on my TS server and explain to me the reason for being a TARD because of a mistake. I guess alot of people who play PR never lost a tank or APC, never missed a heal, never tk'ed, never forgot to get a kit. GET REAL. All of you SNOBTARDS have fun with your little cliques cos I for one do not want any part of it. PR is pretty much the CADDYSHACK of the online gaming world....I know its not all servers, but when a fair number of clans behave a certain way, the community gets reputation...

I know you all will say,.."yeah whatever, Strummer had a couple bad experiences"..Thats fine, but believe me I would not post if I didnt think it was a problem. IT IS. Unless, the community does not want any new players..(which may be the case)....better PR...(thats public relations) better get better, cos people are leaving this game in droves...(4 of my clan members refuse to play this).

I love the game, but I am definitely staying away from certain servers. I wont say names, but its not surprising that those particular servers only have limited amount of people on them. This is just my opinion, and not meant to upset anyone in particular..

hummm to be honest I dont think most of our community aint like that, thou I do get annoyed at stuff like a player sitting in the APC gun when not in the squad with a crewman kit (so he dont die) but cant use the gun cos he aint in the same squad as the gunner, and wont let 1 of my squad into it and stuff like that. But really I agree with you more of our players should be willing to teach new players how to play this game and should not get so worked up about some small things.

Thou to be honest I think very few people in our community are like this. I think you have just had some unlucky days to be honest and found afew bad ppl on a server that have stuck in your head.

Thou its kinda hard to change the way our community look on new players aswell... cant happen over night or with a patch

Yeah, I gotta agree with Rhino. The forums are a nasty place at times -mind you most forums are that way. Nonetheless, I find that most of the servers that I hang out on the gamers are quite friendly and helpfull. Dont get me wrong, I have told a few jackasses to 'buzz-off', but its uncommon.

Well I agree on some of your points. Sometimes on servers you can se smacktards bulling around new players and so on. But most of the people I've met are nice and quite understanding if you misses something. Yesterday we had a new guy as commander, the first thing he announced was that he took the role as commander since noone else did that. He also told us that this was his first time as commander and he didn't know anything about it. Since I was Sl i heard some of the conversation and saw some in the chat. One SL was immediatley angry apparently screaming that he should resign, the others (me too) told him to shut the f*ck up and after that we helped the commander to get along and do his duties. Next round he was a quite good Commander doing his job. Adapt and overcome.

However there are some new players that you get quite annoyed with, for example, just this evening I spawned and instalntly got killed by a new guy "testing" his weapon on me. That sort of thing kinda annoys me.

I see it on the forums a lot more than I used to (which is annoying), but generally in game people are pretty nice that I've talked to. Most squads I've been in are willing to let a new guy in and show him what's what. If you ever see a [KTA] squad up (usually called Tac Inf), feel free to join, as long as you want to learn, we're happy to teach what we can.

I get my *** handed to me in this game, and on occassion my *** chewed out for tk'ing, but hey thats part of the game and learning curve.

This mod aint for the thin skinned, and if you need to be treated with kid gloves go play vanilla. Just my two cents worth.

I think that PR is getting some "unfair" press about the community not being "welcoming" to new players.

That is simply untrue, and new players to this mod should put things in perspective.

I agree with you strummer,

I've seen that happen on the game and on the forums, And the thing that really pisses me off is the "snobbery" on these forums,

Mind you i like being an *** like most of the population but there are times that i feel bad for guys that have a good idea, and all they get is the group of guys that say "RTFM,or Already suggested do a search"

But there are allot of people that play PR that are good guys, and allot of them rarely post on these forums.

It's cause most people can't distinguish between the terms "noob" and "newb."

But also note that a lot of people who play PR don't actually visit the forums and the sort. But hey, feel free to join my squad anytime you see it(BeerHunter). Though if it's locked, it's usually because me and my buddy are just playing as snipers, but if you type out a message to me I'll probably let you in.

I completly agree with you, and despise people who go off on a "holier than thou" attitude. This is by far one of the hardest games I've ever played on, and I regularly go and play a game without reading the manual. i mean, a FPS is an FPS, they are all the same, point and shoot. PR is very much different. And so, every time I see someone write RTFM I get a tiny bit annoyed. if I was an admin on a server, I would kick them immediately for being rude and offensive. Sometimes when I'm with a friend, and I just want to jump on a server and shoot some enemies i create a two man squad and we go hunting. i then get harassed by all these "vets" who start saying that two man squads are awful and that as a Dev I need to show more teamwork. Two words to you guys, shut up. Not everyone wants to pretend they are a soldier just because they thought Black hawk Down the movie was cool. Sometimes it's funny to see how many APC's you can wipe out with a carefully placed IEd on a motorbike. Somtimes it is funny to try and Jump a bike over the Merlin. Sometimes its funny to watch Olsson try and get in the silliest places with a grappling hook.

Some people need to realise that being an armchair soldier, who thinks they know everything, are the best player in PR, play in all the torunies, the clan matches, the ladders and have a giant E-Penis need to grow up and realise, they are the ******** of the mod. Now come on guys, everyone hug a noob every once in a while. Makes killing them far easier.

I'm harder on myself than anything my squad could say... and they say quite a lot when I tk.

PR is brutal enough without getting tk'd or a teammate doing something stupid. Most comments aren't meant to be mean spirited or cuel... they're off the cuff when emotion and adrenalin are running high. Playing this type of intense wartime game, you have to expect at least a certain degree of that.

I'm not advocating it, but I certainly understand it.

Seriously, I have NEVER met such a big noob in all my life. I agree with you too there Evilhomer, there are times when I absolutely despair at some of the attitudes. For example, when duckhunt was on weekend leave him and I went online. Towards the end of the evening we hadn't played 0.6 Basrah yet and duckhunt hadn't actually had a chance to play on it with more than 3 people. I politely asked if it was possible to get the map switched to Basrah at the end of the round for this reason and in returned recieved an unbelievable amount of abuse. People even accused duckhunt of being a fake, saying it couldn't really be him because he was off doing his training. In the end duckhunt and I both gave up, switched servers, and weren't able to have a round on the map that evening. I'm not saying people should listen to everything a dev says on a server, but at least have the decency to be polite.

Whats with all the cry babies lately? I have never seen someone get verbally abused who didn't earn it and even then I can't even recall any specific incidents where that happened. First of all if you have a fear of getting yelled at, RTFM even tho I have never RTFM myself and just the other day asked someone how to detonate the bomb car, without any rude response to my question.
Snobs? You want to see snobs check out the Falcon 4 community. PR isn't even that complex and the people who play it are usually your joe schmoe FPS gamer not uber leet tactical theorists.
I find this thread laughable esp when your own words from the past contradict you right now, wtf happened to your thick skin?

Sorry, guess the two vehicles I blew up with you in, giving you enough negative points that got you booted off the server were just something that happens.

I didn't hear anything over TS slating you, of course I don't know if any teamchat or squad voip was going on there.

Wasn't long before that I was on another server and got kicked for destroying assets in an enemy main base (tanks, apc's, command post) although I have to admit my squadmate was happily gunning people down a bit too much.

I then rejoined and got booted off myself when a squad and clan mate drove round in a circle and drove at me, resulting in me blowing his vehicle and gaining more negative points and getting an autokick again!

Personally, I thought that was hysterical! Although the earlier kick wasn't quite right considering no dome of death and I wasn't going out of MY way to target enemy troops (except to shoot the engineers trying to remove my mines

)

agree with and especially this statement..

Im probably in the same boat.. im not a bad player but im by no means good..ie i make mistakes...

it all comes down to people skills IMO... alot of these guys dont have them in real life so how can you expect to have them in game? I have been told off enough times by these supposed "good" players (ie play 24/7) like they have been very abusive in some cases...

I just laugh and tell them whatever man and join a new sqaud...i cant be bothered to deal with people who cant respect the others in the server...

IMO new players are the most fun to play with...some of the best games i have had have been with groups of new players..

Thanks WOLFE for being the "politician" of the thread. Yeah, yeah..take part of a responce to a thread that I did like what....6 months ago (maybe longer), and twist it around to try to make me look stupid. Honestly, I am not whining about the game. I like the game...ITS AWESOME. I do have thick skin, and take my share of ****. ITs the "Judge Smail" types whose cybercrap dont stink that bother me. That post is old, and honestly I think that the community has changed since then. With every update there is a new learning curve. I just wish there were servers for novices like me who dont have to put up with wiseasses like you WOLFE., and somehow I think you feel the same way...but I would stil squad up with ya...lol..but then again..you would probably kick me from the squad...lol

MR. D....I was booted off the server cos of neg pts. I was following the SL commands to get a vodnik. Yes (everyone laugh at the noob) I forgot to look for mines and blew it up. After all it was in our main base, and I assumed...(first mistake) that the enemy would not plant mines in our main seeing that 4 base pts ahead were already neutral. OK...so I respawned and got into the APC. Again the SL wanted me too. As I pulled into the road there stood an enemy tank waiting for me...BOOM...Insta kick from server. Whatever..yeah it pissed me off. I am not the best on tank maps..thats why I went in to learn. It was funny, but was it necessary to kick me from the server...?NO. I will just stay away from that server... Anyway, thanks for all the support, and I am done crying now..lol..gonna go get some kills...
