I'd like to remind all members of the forums that harsh reprimands could, possibly, maybe, somehow.... be taken against those who harass new members, EVEN IF its a new member with 1 post who suggests some alteration to alighting from black hawks, like in BHD.

Yes, think of all the people you scare away that might degrade your gameplay....Think of all the bad first impressions that scare away the ones that greaten it.

I always, always try to be patient with newcomers. To quote Clavdivs once more: you don't turn up at your first day at a new job or whatever and immediately set to things as though you've done it all your life (well, in the majority of cases anyway): you ask your co-workers questions, you retain the information given, you begin functioning as a part of the team.

When it comes to gaming a lot of people install a game, briefly skim the manual and then get stuck in only to be confronted by something that raises a question of gameplay. At this point most people, I believe, would say "Ah!" and go back to the manual for advice.

The "problem", if it can be rightly described as such, is that most new players start asking their questions mid-game. You know; that point in a battle when your storming a hot-zone, the rounds are flying around like hornets on amphetamine, your buddies are taking heat then someone asks how to get officer/crewman/pilot kit or what the shovel's for (delete as appropriate).

I agree with an earlier post re a link to the wiki or Spearhead's pdf guide should be permanently and prominently posted at the top of EVERY page accessed on the PR forum, links to these should be part of the rolling messages shown on servers, replies to "noob questions" should be answered with these links as opposed to the caustic, arsey, smartass and elitist replies that normally appear.

It may seem condescending but it's infinitely better than having insults posted here or on server and is ultimately more constructive & usefull than "Lolzr ura t@rd/n00b" or whatever.

I often find myself being the only one giving honest responses to people asking for help, Im sick of people answering questions like "how do I get a kit?" with "press alt+f4". Why would you do that? It doesn't take that much time to type in how to do it.
But yes I also get a bit irritated by people who have an agressive attitude when asking how to do stuff, I think the key is to be humble and that goes for both new people and more experienced players.

Yeah, I was surprised to see a lot of "press Alt-F4" since I started playing PR again (you guys lost me to ArmA for a while there). If it's a question I don't want to answer, like "how do I get the sniper kit", then I just don't answer.

If he was in my squad I'd tell him, but TBH I really can't be bothered to type it all out twice a round so that a player can misuse a very limited team asset.

As for the "you guys are all snobs" attitude I've seen lately on the forums, I think it's very misguided. Many times people are equating the general PR playing population with the forum-user population (and even often with the "old guard" of players who've been playing for a while).

Other times people are getting upset with people telling others to clean up their grammar or use the search function. These are perfectly valid requests. On more mature forums, there's certain rules of netiquette that people are expected to follow. People should search before creating a new thread. People should take the time to type coherently. People should read before writing. As a community, we *will* and *should* self-regulate to make sure people feel some pressure to abide by these conventions.

Do a search and see how many people's first post is a request for help of some sort and then see how many of the "snobs" go out of their way to find solutions to problems of people they don't know.

The snobbery comes when people enter a community and begin to criticise and complain and when they get a less than friendly reaction they cry "snobbery".

Just came across this and I feel it is a good example of the community.

Very true. Generally in game I think most are pretty helpful and only react negatively (and I include myself there) when people harp on about how "this is ****" , "this is bugged", "you're all blue meanies" and then get the hump when someone replies "bye then".

Maybe it's just me, but I don't mind the whining, as long as it's constructive, on the forums and I certainly don't mind people asking 'how to' questions in game

In game whining however is a different matter, I, along with most people I'm sure, don't have an infinite amount of time to play PR as wife, kids and work demand 99.9% of my time. When I do get a spare couple of hours I want to play the damn game not spend my time justifying stuff to annoying ********.

The rudeness of people gets to me as well, many act as though they have a God given right to instant attention.
