[Static Model] My first model

Post by Z-trooper »

Hello PR community I am both a newcommer to the PR forums and to the modelling world. (have played PR for a long time though)

Actually this section of the forum inspired me to start modelling, so found some tutorials on some very basic stuff.
Because I am both a weapon freak and a PR fan I decided that my first model should have something to do with that - so I took a basic component that most modern weapons are based upon - the bullet.

I am not 100% done yet, but here is what I have so far (the dimensions are probably ****, and its sort of a cross between a rifle bullet and a pistol bullet - its all made from free fantasy so please dont bring me down on that :) )

I know its totally crappy compared to the stuff I see here - but we all have to start somewhere, right? :)

I am not too familiar with all the terms of the modelling world yet, but I want to learn :)

I'm still getting the hang for some basics and how to use the program, so please dont be too hard on me :D

Now for some texturing - my first time at that too. I'll update the thread when I get to that.

Finally, a actual "my first model" thread that isn't someone posting something they stole from somewhere else.

Anyways, good luck with your modeling!

Thank you :)

I will keep improving.

How much experience have the modellers of PR have? years? I'm amazed with the level of detail on some of the models. Details I yet cant even dream of making :) but I'm sure I'll get better as time goes by :)

Ive done it a few months, but all I can say is keep doing it, and if you can, model a little each day. Its definitly a steep learning curve, but I can honestly say its worth it.

I got started/inspired by some tutorials - just googled "3D studio max tutorials" I think... if I can do it - anyone can :)

Ah, thought so.. I'll just keep at it - if I get enough spare time for it that is.. have a very demanding education :) but making graphics (Photoshop) is one of my biggest hobbies, and in time I think modelling could be too.
I like editing sound and video too.
When I'm done with a few models I think I'll have a go at mapping (I know! I have a hard time just sticking to one subject. I'm the kind of guy that wants to know everything about all subjects :) )
I'm planning on making a training map for my clan. Just a very small map, but all in good time.. first a few more models :D

Good stuff!

Like geze said, its refreshing to see a real 'first modeler' start out, instead of all these posers who have just ripped the model from somewhere else.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks :) I am trying... I have decided that my first "real" project will be the Colt 1911 :) I can't remember if its still in use with any armies, but its a nice pistol imo.

Maybe its too big a project, but I'm sure that I'll find out along the way. I can always put it on hold and get back to it later on :)

Keep it up man just give it all you have. Try to make it as detailed as you can and never just "settle" and you will impress your self.

keep at it, iv been doing it for about 2 years now, lots of fun. Start off with tutorials then after that start thinking of new ways to model the object. try doing a tutorial, then do it again on your own trying ways that make more sence to u.

Beat me to it, you sneaky b*stard! :-P

But yeah, as the others have said, good job so far, and just keep working. You'll learn a lot as you go. I still do. And don't be afraid to ask questions!
