[Static Model] my first model

Post by mrbeers »

So I've been tinkering around with 3ds max for the past few weeks and it's really fun. This is my latest work:

Image

They're 12.7 x 99 mm NATO rounds modeled from this image[/img]. Eventually I'll get around to modeling a BMG to match the bullets ;)

Whoa, how do you get such a detailed skin on them?

Wow! Amazing job. I would say they are real bullets if it wasn't posted in the Modding forums. :firing:

The tip/primer, bullet, and casing are just hue/saturation variations of the brass material located here: http://www.osmosis.com.au/info/downloads.htm (Vray Metal Kit)

As you can see in this image http://beers.leafo.net/render/vray/bullets_006.png the material appeared to be broken up into squares, so I added a heavy blur to the reflection map. It's not a problem with the material itself (otherwise this wouldn't have turned out well http://beers.leafo.net/render/vray/vray ... nd_008.png), it's because of the cylindrical shape of the casing.
