I know alot of people will be against this, they want their tanks under their complete control when they are in them, but i think it would add soooo much to this mod in terms of forcing team work, and adding realism.
Make tanks, apc's, and attack choppers require alteast 2 people to operate. Its quite simple, there is a driver and there is a gunner. the driver can only drive and the gunner can only gun. this would be soo cool.
in the chopper dont let the driver shoot any more missles, and give all firing capabilities to the gunner. also, add a zoom to the cannon on the choppers. u guys gave a zoom to tanks and apcs, and its awesome.... i think it belongs in the chopper as well. thats it, what do u guys think.

Of course it will work. You would have to get other people or it wont work, that's how it will workcoderedfox wrote:Oh I agree, the only problem is "Will it work?" and "How will it work?"
Personally I sort of like the idea. The problem is seat switching in ground vehicles. People will still run off alone in a tank, just stop and switch to gunner. But that will of course always be inferior to a crew that can drive and shoot (especially against AT soldiers)... So its not so bad, really.

maybe we can take out the seat switching capabilities. if its possible make players goto the part of the vehicle they want to get in then press e. i dunno how or if it would work though.dawdler wrote:Of course it will work. You would have to get other people or it wont work, that's how it will work

i also wish there were animations of players getting in and out of vehicles.
although i "accept it" i think its very dumb magically transporting inside and out of vehicles.

Well while I whole heartedly agree with you, the fact of the matter is, you dont want to force people to use teamwork. In some instances it's ok, such as with the vehicles. But in most cases you want to encourage teamwork, not force. Just thought I'de bring that to everyone's attention.
Tanks and APCs are the most important tool in a large scale battle. Making sure they are used properly requires many different things to be done to them. One of these things is proper physics.
A lot of the vehicles in the game are so arcadey with thier physics that the only way they relate to thier real life counter-part is from the visual aspect and that aspect alone...
This also applies to aircraft. Now of course given the fact that gameplay has the biggest impact on us all, we have to make some sacrifices here and there FOR gameplay. But I assure you, most of these vehicles can be changed physically without harming gameplay.
In-fact, it would be a nice idea to utilize something like for instance, the tanks requiring at least two people to operate. A driver and a gunner. It's not totally realistic, no, but it's MORE realistic and it would enhance teamwork gameplay.
Along with this lets take into account the M1A2s statistics for a minute here. The most important thing about the M1s stats is it's speed. The acceleration of the M1A2 is 0-20mph in 7.2seconds (roughly, and no typos)..So, naturally we should decrease the tanks acceleration right? I mean it's only logical. (given certain limitations by the game engine the correct acceleration speed cannot be acheived, trust me.) Then there are so many other factors that could be wedged in here. Turret speed, Barrel speed, Rate of fire, Correct loadouts, improved suspension and even some corrected camera views.
All of that stuff combined would shape a vehicle like the M1A2 into a more teamwork dependant vehicle. The driver/gunner change alone would as well.
But why stop there?

This is possible. Each position on a vehicle is called a PCO. Each PCO has an EntryPoint. These entry points are invisible 3D Spheres. The size of the sphere is 100% changable. You can make it so large that you could get in the vehicle half way across the map. Or you could make it so small you'de have to be a flea to find it. Now with the proper logic, for instance on a tank, you could change the size of the EntryPoint so the player would have to get on top of the tank to get in it.(like IRL) The position of the EntryPoint is also changable. This means that localized entry and exiting of vehicles is very much possible.maybe we can take out the seat switching capabilities. if its possible make players goto the part of the vehicle they want to get in then press e. i dunno how or if it would work though.

Need special "automatic entry" in to a squad that is "attached" to vehicles to allow communications between everyone in the vehicle. As soon as you leave the vehicle, you leave the "vehicle squad".
If you want to impliment any kind of multiple person control of a vehicle you are going to have to find a way to support a vehicle only comms structure. And impliment it along side already established manually created squad comms.
Realism is great untill it becomes boring. In real life boredom is a necessary evil. In a game it just doesn't make sense. In the case of tanks with a driver with a mind to go one way and the gunner who is in the rotating turret who sees an enemy (that the driver does not), the ability to effectively engage that target is going to be VERY shakey. And on a pub server, forget it. I would say that an APC with a single gunner/driver would start taking out tanks left - right - and center, simply because he can control his vehicle down to split second movements. Be carefull with multiple person control in vehicles.
Ask any tanker commander in real life about getting the driver and gunner co-ordinated. He will tell you of a few screaming matches. lol.

I like the idea of the vehicle squad! Like a vehicle squad is automatically created and disbanded when 2/3 ppl get into a tank and leave, respectively.toast wrote:Need special "automatic entry" in to a squad that is "attached" to vehicles to allow communications between everyone in the vehicle.
