Do you guys realize that the exchange was not meant to be exactly a competition? it was more of a friendly get together.... not a "ha-ha we are better than you". Of course the "real" objective that PLAN Marines had in mind was to see how good their training was...
BTW:
please, don't turn this into a "China/UK/US sucks, we are better" thread (which seems to happen when ever someone post something about China...)

The British Portuguese French and Spanish were formed in the 1600s, out of them the most active has probably been the British Royal Marines.
The Royal Marines has the longest training period 9months or 32 weeks were as the USMC do 16 weeks
The USMC do 16 weeks training which is roughly the same as the British Infantry the US infantry do 9 weeks (I'm not downplaying the US forces in anyway)
By all the stats the Royal Marines are the best Marines in the world by far they should be compared to the US Seals instead of the USMC.
I dont no about the Chinese marines so i cannot comment on them but i doubt their training is as demanding as the Commando Course.

Well that's kinda hard to argue against since America wasn't even formed until the end of the 1700s.robbo wrote:The British Portuguese French and Spanish were formed in the 1600s, out of them the most active has probably been the British Royal Marines.

It don't really matter anyways since most modern military doctrine was established in WWII where small arms, tanks, airpower and artilllery were put to full use. All that flintlock, swash buckling stuff is good for tradition and heritage and that's about it.
I really can never understand how you english guys always claim y'all are the best. I've found that everybody thinks that their countries military is the best but all y'all have done since the end of WWII, as an individual nation, as an unassisted military force, is kill a couple hundred Argentinian conscripts. Everything else has basically been political gestures to the American government and/or the UN (Korean War, Desert Storm, OIF, OEF). No doubt they train hard but all this about US=most money/My Country= best trained is such a weak arguement. I've heard it from people from so many different countries but none of them actively start wars, which in the long run is probably a good thing. I'm not putting down the sacrifice made by British soldiers, just looking at this in a combat history context.

Next time you look into British starting stand alone wars and say we've only had one....LOOK HARDER

Last time i checked we won all our wars in Asia...
"I really can never understand how you english guys always claim y'all are the best"
Simply because we are the best trained...may not be the best supplied or the best numbers but we are the best trained best moral and THE best fighters in a combat zone.

Anthony Lloyd, himself a former soldier in the British army and a Northern Ireland and Gulf War veteran:
"The men inside (the APC) might have been UN but they were playing by a completely different set of rules. They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come."

I didn't say anywhere that the Marines are the "best" either, I said they've fought the hardest because I base that on casualties sustained in battle (WWII to present).
Half of those operations in the link you provided were barely even wars and only some of them involved the Royal Marines.
Sorry, I just get bored with hard-headed claims like robbo's which are easy to put forth when there's nothing to back it up except your own grand opinion.

Don't be silly Heavy Z! Everyone on here is just waiting for a thread where they can mercilessly lay into each other about how much better their nation is than everyone else's, while at the same time avoiding the fearsome wrath of R-DEV Gaz with an inconsipicuos thread title!PRC_Heavy_Z wrote:did anyone bother to read? The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
Many thanks to [R-DEV]Adriaan for the sig!
