[Help!] Custom texture problem

Post by ZZEZ »

I added a completely black texture for bomb-crater, but look how it looks ingame! close up its fine, from distance it looks wierd.

Any ideas on what I did wrong?I saved it as 512x512, dds, dx1 with no alpha.

(I searched bfeditor, but found nothing after browsing 4 pages of 'custom texture' )

detail or colour textuer? also you should really never use a 100% black colour textuer (or detail for that matter) as you cant see any detail, like in your close up pic its just a flat black colour... use like 75% black or something so it looks "dark" but you still keep the detail textuers etc :)

EDIT: also colour or detail textuer for the editor (to be used to paint in the editor) or ingame?

also you know you can paint just a flat colour onto your terrain's colour?

Its flat black, 0/0/0 and its both detail & colour texture.
I'll try it :)

well use a detail texture like dirt, then just paint a colour onto the terrain by going onto the texture layer properties, there is a small "color" box in the tweak bar, set that to a dark gray colour, then on the right where you select where you want to paint detail, colour or both, select only colour, then below that there is 2 boxes saying "colour" or "texture", check colour then it will paint the colour you selected in that box in the tweaker bar.

I tried importing a brighter-dark texture, same issue but blue this time :|

I used your method with the 'color' thingy in the right side, works perfectly :)

One thing I noticed, when I open the color in the texture options, the editor crashes 1 out of 3 times..I guess I messed up the texture in photoshop somehow.

just for your future info you need to save detail and colour textuers for the editor (not the game, thou detail textuers for the game use the same format) in 8,8,8,8 ie, 8bit Alpha, 8bit Red, 8bit Blue and 8bit Green but just to paint a flat colour use that method, faster and easier.

also to "spice" up that area use diffrent shades of black and put dots of it here and there so it aint all a dull, flat, unrealistic colour as you never get 1 flat colour in r/l ;)
