Question about SL, Officers Kit and Rally Points.

Post by BeerHunter »

I’m wondering if there is ever a time when a SL shouldn’t have an officer’s kit as it’s needed to set rally points for the squad.

If that’s the case, why isn’t the ability to set rally points simply a function of the SL instead of an officer’s kit? That would allow the SL to assume another supporting roll (ie medic , support).

And speaking of rally points..how in the hell are you supposed to know where you can set them? I’m tired of being spammed with the “you cannot set a rally point so close to ..” :o ops:

I know you have to be at least 100m or so from a CP but is there any way you can tell simply by looking at the map what your position actually is? Are the grid squares set to a certain scale?

1. -When you are the SL of a vehicle squad

2. -Use your 3D map, the icons in your view gives you the excact distance in meters.

.... just show the 3d map for a sec.. and you'll see the distance to the flags... (yeah I know... 3d map sucks.. I only use it for this purpose actually)

EDIT: beat me to it

They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come."

you have the icons on your view that show you how far away you are from a CP, move marker, etc.

If for some reason they arent on, hit "alt" on your keyboard ingame and that should turn them on.

Does a 'vehicle squad' even exist?

Squads that are only using viechles (ie no infantry element), to tank squads, attack helo squads, jet squads, etc.
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

when you are a "tanking squad" you would never get out of your tank or w/e in real life so the last thing we want to encroage is people hopping out of a tank to set a rally point. When you die in your tank you should spawn back to main base.

If you are an APC squad then your APC has a spawn point.

Default is to press Alt to toggle it on and off. The 3D map shows the closest flags, distances, also SL markers (attack, move, defend, etc) and mine warnings.

Rally point must set 100m from the CP. Press ALT to turn off and on the 3d map; it only show marker, CP distances in meters.

On the subject of the 3D map I have this line in my gamelogicinit.con:

Code: Select all

renderer.drawNameTags 0
It completely disables not only the nametags but also the 3d map icons.
I can no longer use ALT to toggle it on and off.
I find myself relying more on the M map these days and also being more careful about what I shoot at... It might just be friendly ;)

You can only set a rally point with your faction's Officer kit.

dbzao: Is this a well thought through decision, or a random event?

We didn't think much about it. Was just simple, mec rally point needs mec officer kit. I don't have a strong argument against your suggestion, I was just saying what is the rule today.

Change this to work for Crewman and Pilot, too?

I know, there was a thread about, when someone nicked a US pilot kit as PLA on Mao Valley yet he still couldnt fly the Chinese chopper.

Nah, the Officer setting a rally point is much less impacting since the rally point is a metaphor of the SL marking a location as a regroup location.

If you consider that to operate these vehicles you need special equipment, I wont do that change. It almost never happens. If you have a chopper, just go at it and request the kit.
