Squad leader Camera Feed to Commander.

Post by =UKHC=Neoteknix »

Ok so this is kinda inspired by the Commander tactic thread...

But when a commander is selecting squads would it be possible to assign the Third zoom on the map, to a live feed / spectator view of the squads leader that you've selected ?

I know in real combat operations they do use helmet cameras, and i thought this could be a more realistic solution.

would be great too if we could add some sort of interference effect and the " Snow " you get on tv with no channel on when bullets hit / Bombs land etc etc etc

:D :D :D

I don't get it. Seems pretty weird. Is it even used in real life.

and i quote " S.C.O.U.T. CAM – MOUNTED TACTICAL CAMERA

The S.C.O.U.T. Cam (Security, Combat, Observation, Undercover, Tactical) is our first product designed specifically for the military market. With technology superior to any other helmet cam on the market, the S.C.O.U.T. Cam is a high-resolution camera with 520 TV lines and the Sony Ex-View CCD chip. Multiple interchangeable lenses and neutral density filters (sun-shades) allow you to get the perfect shot in a wide-range of conditions.

The S.C.O.U.T. is in use by military personnel around the globe. Common uses for the camera are:

* After action reviews
* Training performance evaluation
* Tactical observation
* Reconnaissance

The S.C.O.U.T. Cam can be mounted to helmets, weapons, and vehicles. It has a coiled cable for better strain relief and is fully compatible with our complete line of accessories. Its connection is simple, its technology is superior, and its versatility makes it a perfect choice."

so i'd say thats a yup. ;)

It is in GRAW!
Does sound harcoded, don't these helmut cams record the video for later use and does not provide live akshun?

EDIT; That pic looks like something from GRAW. Oh look! "Future Infantry Soldier System", there you have it.

El_Vikingo, dont tell me that because its in GRAW its realistic :P .

Personally ive never seen this cam being used, and while yes, it would be fun to use and yes, it would allow the commander to see why exactly his squad leaders are screaming for air support i dont think it should be implemented for the simple fact that if the game looks anything like GRAW....youre attracting the Delta Farce Smacktards. :P

If we like playing GRAW with helmet cams, then GRAW we can play. Alternatively the SL uses his/her MIC to speak to the commander to give them an update on the situation with their squad. We can even record video in PR just like the RL soldiers we can see on youtube. Its called fraps. Great for after action review.

A CO who has time to view a live camara feed from atop of his Squad Leaders heads, is a BALLS CO.

Camara feeds are biased behond comprehention. They show you only a limited and short view of a situation from possibly a massive time frame. They do not provide info about what happened 10secs or 10 mins before you started watching OR what is going on just over a hill 50m away!

It is a squad leaders job to gather all the necccessary info from all his squad memebers, process it and then shift the strait facts to the CO and possibly his own, WELL INFORMED OPINION using VOIP.

If a SL cant attempt to do this, well that is just highly unforntunate but a CO who attempted to do this exact same job for the squad IN QUESTON by using a head mounted camara and all his other CO dutes, well that is just plain old IMPOSSIBLE!

I don't need camera feeds, and it's impossible, but just think about it in a weird way;

- Chat-logs are being watched by some program (tell about it later on)
- Commander types a certain command (!livefeed AfterDune), where !livefeed is some command that doesn't even need to exist and AfterDune is the playername, which gets saved in the log
- That program reads all the lines in the log-file as soon as another line is being written to it (a bit like the *nix command: tail -f <filename>)
- The program verifies if the player typing the command is indeed a commander
- The program verifies if the playername X provided by the commander is on the same team
- After all is succesful, the program calls punkbuster to make a screenshot of player X
- That screenshot is saved somewhere, for BF2 to load
- BF2 loads the screenshot and puts it in front of the commander (static object, only visible for commander)
- If the commander moves or does anything at all (keyboard hits, not mouse movement), then the image gets unloaded and we play on

There, your live-battle-image-feeds, LOLZORZ! :D

tbh, it wouldn't surprise that in 5 years time this will become mainstream. So I'm for it, if at all possible.

Ok, Heres My Idea, We bring BACK UAV BUT someone has to fly it for the commander and only in the area that the UAV is it provides 3x zoom
