Grenades & Tank killing

Post by FrostPaw »

I'm guessing you've already thought about this but I always considered it an impossibility a hand or "frag" grenade could do anything other than chip the paintwork of a modern day tank. Short of running up and jamming the genade down the barrel or between the track and a wheel I would think its impossible to even stop it moving.

Will grenades be useless against MBT's and APC's or is this a matter of soldiers need "something" to combat a tank when alone?

Even then though RPG's are useless at close range (they usually do not detonate if it is too close to a tank, sometimes it may leave a large dent in the side.) or too far.

You should be able to toss a granade down the tank hatch blowing the people inside to bits

Assuming the enemy is kind enough to leave it open......as you can only open it from the inside :p

Naturally. If a player is using a machinegun ontop of the tank, spraying everywhere, who's to say that somebody couldn't lob a grenade into the hatch he's peeking out of?

Anyone have an idea how BF2 tank driving and fighting will be conducted? An interesting thing about OFP was you could drive buttoned up or get a wide field of view with the hatch open. Unfortunately that left you open to all all kinds of enemy small arms fire.

IRT the buttoned up idea.
I think it would work. Basically a complex higgins boat hatch. Model a seprate hatch for the driver, and make it so that the up/down hatch controls move that hatch up and down. When up, the drivers head is out and he has an unobstructed view and is free to look around. Hatch down, the hatch comes down as well as the player model, and you can look around and see out the view ports and such. If you guys wanna be REALLY special you could make it so that its a "cockpit" when the hatch is down and you can not only see out the view ports but see things such as the controls of the tank. It would add to both realism AND the atmosphere to the mod greatly.

So would you use the up/down arrow keys or would you use the F9 key to get in and out of the cockpit?

Up and Down arrows(by default), and the hatch would operate like the ramps on the higgins boat in BF. Didnt DC used to have something like this on the back hatch of the bradley.

If I remember correctly they did, but they had to remove it because the code was giving them problems when they played in on a server.

What about it? I said hand grenades. An rpg has force behind its delivery due to the proppelant a hand grenade does not.

I mean, if the mod is gonna go out, then i guess a handgrenade wouldnt do much. ALTHO! If they wanted to be cool, they could make a hitbox for the tank and have the grenade damage it slighty. I mean, wouldnt you think a grenade going off next to a tank would hurt the ears or somthing...

You know what would really suck, is if your tank crew is sitting in a tank and like 20 people throw grenades at the tank...somne would have a headache in the morning!

If they were buttoned up, who knows what they would hear. Tanks are incredibly loud, so it probly wouldnt make much of a difference if they were inside it.

The grenads wouldn't have to hurt anybody, but they could make your ears ring for a few minutes.

How long do you thing a ringing coming from your speakers would make you feel "wow how realistic" compared to the ammount of times it would make you think "geez that ringing is starting to piss me off big time"

Realism is good but only if it improves the enjoyment of the gaming experience. Nobody wants white noise blaring out of their speakers, all that would do is annoy people and force them to turn their speakers off.

I would say about 15 or 20 seconds but it would be up to the modders

I mean a ringing in the ears would be realistic... say just a few seconds so that if anyone is shooting or anything they cant hear anything... So if a tank is firing behind them then they cant hear it they just hear the "white" noise for a few seconds. If they turn off their speakers then that just further messes them up since they wont hear anything anyways. Just fire at what you see, tactic.
