The IR Spotlight
It would be nice to have the IR spotlight in the game because when your flying a jet and yor high and fast, u dont know where ground targets are until u get super closer. even if someone spots out the enemy for u, u sill may not be able to find the target. so im askin is it possible to have the IR spotlight in PR?
if you guys dont know what and IR spot light is, its like a thin beam of light that is used to point at a target for airstrike. its used in transformers the movie, when the lobster robot in the desert was attacking, and one of the troops used the light to pinpoint the location for the a-10s. but yeah its basically a high tech laser pointer used to help the pilot find the target.
if you still dont know what an IR spotlight is heres a video about it.

i wonder if it would be like.... an invisible bullet.
you equip the soflam.
you left click on your target that "fires" a IR dot.
now the tricky part, if the smoke grenade has a timer that it uses to emmit the smoke, say like.. 20 secs for the smoke cloud to build... why not give this "IR Dot" a say.... 60 sec timer.
now, make it have the icon of heat signiture for planes/helo's so that they can actually aim at the IR dot. Just make it.. not.. a heat.. sig..so they dont shoot missles at it...
that way, the dot, has impacted the target, has a sticky value like C4, has a life timer of a minute, so that when a plane flies around, they see it and it's better for target aquisition.
but then again i aint no coder.

I just made this recently. Got sort of inspired by the transformer movie. Really cool way to destroy ground targets and making air support have more precision on ground troops.
Mine works with the SOFLAM. I point it at a target and left click to fire an invisible sticky projectile that lasts for a while. Note it does not do any damage.
I have also modded the HUD to show the laser targets in the SOFLAM zoom so you see little red trangles.
But when a passing a-10 flies by, he will see big green squares which he can lock onto and shoot laser guided missles at.
I think there might be a simplier way though i have not gotten it to work and i am rather satisfied with my work around.
I think i might attempt the IR light sometime later when i have time.
The method i suggest is similar to the one above. But, there is a code to make laser by sat nav and if i can just mount that properly onto a rifle and make it sort of a activated by firing effect like muzzle flash. Place it properly at the barrel. The laser target projectiles will be fired at maybe say a machine gun rate to try and make the beam steady. I think it might flicker a bit but it can be solved in my opinion. And the colour can also be changed to green like the one they used in Transformers.
Sorry i didnt really read your post carefully. I see what you mean you just want the box to appear to allow better visual but not locked on firing. Hmm that might be tricky. How about just editing the HUD of the vehicle allowing you to see heat objects or laser objects with a box around them.
Lastly Decepticons > Autobots

IR Spotlight is what they use to film nature programs at night, and film with IR cameras so they don't bother the animals...
Correct if I'm wrong (those who actually know about this, but NV goggles are used for these laser pointers right? ( We've all seen that Cobra/BH video at night with the laser pointer). Would this not require a night map? Not everyone would have one? If one were to have one, why not give it to the squad leader? Or can the squad leader already use what he has as in "ATTACK MARKERS" or "DESTROY MARKERS"?
In BF" the closest the DEVS could get would be "spawning a heat signature (lock-acble) using the SOFLAM, but then again I may be wrong.

Not everyone has Dynamic Lighting ON either.Clypp wrote:There are no dynamic lights in BF2 (headlights, flashlights, etc) so I doubt IR lights will work.

yeah I'm pretty sure the only way you are going to see that IR light is if you have NV gear on. AFAIK it's the same kind of light as the one the AN/PEQ-2 uses. That is the light/target pointer infantry use on their weapons. And the main advantage of course is that the light is only visible with NV goggles, so the enemy can't see the light but you can.El_Vikingo wrote:Would this not require a night map?
So I'd imagine it's the same thing with that other IR target pointer, need night vision to see it.
