Hitmodel for vehicles

Post by phlerp »

Is it possible to have a more complex hitmodel for vehicles?
As it is now the whole vehicle is one big hitbox were hits decrease a number, though different parts decrease the number faster. When this number reaches zero the vehicle explodes, but up to this point it works just fine.

Both as a vehicle driver and as someone who shoots at vehicles I'd like hits on different parts of a vehicle give different types of damage. If I hit the threads of a tank for example, it wouldn't make it explode but it might render the vehicle immobile.

This would certainly be more realistic, but would it make the game too complex and thus make it boring? And more important, would it be possible to do this?

Doubt it, but would be cool.

Its possible, but in a very awkward way that'll sure to have an impact on performance. I really dont think its worth the effort there.
