how much does range affect damage?
Just wondering since yesterday I realized that the Us sniper rifle (m40?) doesn't kill people from 1 shot. Now I'm guessing this is because of the range I was shooting from. Must have been something like 300m, or what ever is the view distance on daquing (sp?) oilfields.
And yes, I'm 99% sure I hit the targets since they were almost always stationary. Headshots seemed to kill them just fine, and 2 shots to the center mass took care of them. But weren't snipers supposed to be 1 shot 1 kill even to the center mass against guys who have body armor? And IRC I've never had this problem before. Though then again I don't snipe that often.
Even managed to shoot a squad mate once from that range, they were moving to the flag and I accidentially shot one of them. The team damage message came etc and I just said sorry and he was like "no problem, I'll survive" and he just used a field dressing and he was back in action.
So, how much does the range affect the damage? And is the effect the same with all weapons or does it depend on the weapon used?

damage = 62
DistToStartLoseDamage = 600m
DistToMinDamage = 1000m
mindamage= 40 (I think)
So no, on an armored target it will take two center mass shots to take them down. That said, the first shot will have them in bad need of a medic.

Where'd that info come from?
The 'guide' is rather lacking in specific information like that.

Against a hard-cover protection vest.
Remember, this rifles fire about the same calibre as the AK-47,the G3 or the SKS fire. They have no magical boost to increase their firepower, they are feared because they usually hit where their wielder wants it. Since in most games you have not the ranges to properly make use of their precision, it is usually pictured as a scoped weapon with enourmous firepower. Since that ain't realistic, you have to make use of that great zoom and accuracy in PR to either score a headshot, or give two shots in quick succession before running away (a.k.a. changin position

the sniper rifles fire 7.62x51mm or 7.62 "NATO" (except for the Brit rifle-.338 Lapua i believe?) while the ak47 and sks both fire m47 7.62x39mm "short" or "russian" that has less energy/range/accuracy but still arguably deadlier than 5.56
modern body armor as used by the conventional factions depicted should usually stop one of either 7.62 round. after that, your screwed since the vest would be cracked
only 62 damage? 70 damage for 7.62 NATO sounds better, imo

NATO rounds are 5.56mm

Got it from the M40 tweak file.Reyals wrote:Where'd that info come from?

Modern Body armor like the inteceptor stuff the US use? Because that's capable of stoping mutiple 7.62 rounds I believe. Either way, the "cracking" scenario is pretty much the case modeled in PR.billdan wrote:modern body armor as used by the conventional factions depicted should usually stop one of either 7.62 round. after that, your screwed since the vest would be cracked

It's the AMRs that produce one shot kills anywhere on the body.

For those complaining...stand alone damage numbers mean nothing.
Material to material interactions, such as the bullet material to the player material have damage modifiers which can increase or decrease how much damage is actually done to that material.
Thats why you can't take out a tank by firing lots of bullets at it.

5.56x45 is a NATO round, used in the M16 and its variants, as well as the SA-80/L85, Steyr AUG, TAR-21, and a whole load of others
7.62x51 is also a NATO round, used in the M14, variants, FN FAL, G3A3, and a bunch of other "bigger caliber" rifles.
7.62x39R (r for rimmed) is used in the AK-47 and the SKS, and a few others
7.62x54R (r=rimmed, NOT russian) is Mosin Nagant ammunition, and is also used in the SVD and a few other longer russian rifles.
in BF2142, they made the damage decreasing distances a lot shorter, so if you pt. blank someone with a pistol it takes roughly 4 shots, but if they are 100 meters away, it can take a full clip or magazine. same goes with everything else in the game
maybe this is more realistic? i dunno. the problem with BF2 is that all the scales for EVERYTHING are off, a lot.

shut up. i was saying maybe the part they implemented into 2142 is more realistic than what they have in bf2 now. seems like something that could be changed, so i was saying if all the scales match up enough (distances and size, etc.) then they could change the decrease damage range.
and yes, in some ways 2142 has a LOT more realism than bf2. like camera shake. i REALLY want camera shake in bf2 but its prolly hardcoded, not to mention suggested.

I beg ya pardon?
If you mean a full handgun clip would kill a person at 100 metres, I'm sure you're right.
You're right on the camera shake, although when I run, my vision doesn't shake. Tis a hollywood effect, which makes it look more dramatic.
