Attack Helicopter Suggestion

Post by Desertfox »

Yes, I did search. Multiple times and read multiple threads :)

I think that the rockets should be removed from the attack helicopters and be giving to the co-pilot in a similar system to ArmA. Similar view as the TV missiles? But its locked dead center and can't be moved.

Would eliminate solo'ing :)

i'm against this

keeping the pilot firing them is a lot easier and gets me out of sticky situations (like the gunner on the TV screen or looking the other way when a threat pops up)

i'm not a solo pilot but i thought the RL pilots fired them anyway?

yeah the co pilot system on the cobra in ArmA is pretty nice , looks extactly how i see in the cobra attack hud videos :P , you know how the javelin works on AA how u have to have the sorta of a box on that object for 3 seconds before locking , can that be substituted instead of tv guided missiles

Would fix the soloing and would give the 2nd pilot something to do other than wearing a cool helmet.

nah, remember, its the pilots job to protect his aircraft and make sure that the co-pilot has the shot to do his job.

this can fix soloing, but it would make the pilot useless except to get the shot to the co-pilot

I thought this at first but the pilot would much rather be concentrating on not having a date with the ground then firing rockets :)

Im also going to assume that everyone who is against this is also against the way tank's are set up?

You already eliminated so called soloing by adding the startup time for chopters. Now the pilot have almost useless hydras(useless against armor) Why nerf it even further?? And no i dont fly solo.

Got to agree with Eddie. I'd be against removing the pods from the pilot.

Actually, in real life firing the gun is the pilot's responsibility, since he is responsible for the threats/targets nearest the aircraft, but the CPG can also use it and the other weapons. But we cannot simulate that in game because the pilot cannot "free-look."

nope, if they make solo-tanking none existant, i dont see why a pilot should have anything available to him to shoot with. If solo-tankings goes, so does solo-helo piloting.

Not sure how realistic it is. But it would solve the issue of hopping in a chopper with a retarded squad mate who just flies around strafing things like it's vBF2, never lining his gunner up properly.

To have the rocket pods only useable by the gunner would only serve to frustrating the player even further.

They are already tricky to aim. Now, to have it function properly you'd want the pilot to line them up and then expect gunner to just KNOW what pilot is trying to doing everytime?

If it's a weapon that can be used by the gunner with more control then I'd be for it. But this isn't even something the gunner can aim, all he'd be able to do is to push the fire button, for he has no control of the chopper's orientation. In short, this makes zero sense and adds nothing but frustrations to the gameplay.

It's a whole different subject than the 2 man tank system we have right now. Since the gunner actually get to aim the gun, and that adds more dynamic to the teamwork. Of course unless we suddenly have a fixed barrel/turret tank in PR... Then having a 2 man crew is just plain stupid. Since the gunner can pretty much play the game with his eyes closed and just hit the button whenever the driver tells him to.
