I don't know exactly how it works so forgive me if my idea wouldn't work but: I think a big improvement would be to add a "dirt trail" to the bikes, like the tanks create when the tracks move, so that the "drifting" will look more like the bike is kind of "digging" against the ground?

Also an idea just for fun: Perhaps there's a way to make the bike kind of like a heli/jet system so you could in essence "wheelie" off of some hills at high speeds when you pull the mouse up or down? Is there a way to leave the left/right look as normal as well to allow for driving and looking around?

I'm rendering my major gripe about dirtbikes... perhaps it's not the bike... it's the terrain.

Shaky Handlebars, unrealistic shock absorption, stability.

tbh i think dirt trails already exist, its just my graphics are set quite low and you will have only seen the bike moving from a 1st person view. not sure though.it could be added if its not already there. As for wheelies im not sure how many PR players would appreciate it as it would become a much more wasted asset, used more for fun than anything usefull.

yeah this is exactly what im trying to fix,i have already taken some of the woble out of the handlebars and increased shock absorbtion. try out my version and let me know what you think.

what i hate about the dirtbike is that when you actually use it for its intended purpose in PR, it blows up, b/c of terrain damage. then you're either dead or stuck out in the middle of nowhere, and have to commit suicide and lose 8 pts.

Have you tried using the Huge Civilian truck tires... I noticed those have a TON of spring, but they aren't very stable... You could also try and use the HUMVEE drivetrain...

heh, monster bike comes to mind. nah but its not the springs that are the problem. If you have a look at the model then you will see that the back chain bit is close to the ground and has collisions but doesnt move, this bit hits the ground whenever the springs compress. i cant edit the model because my 3dsmax cant import bf2 models even with the necessary plugins.

Before / After

I noticed the handlebars still have alot of movement that translates into the camera and it's still kind of annoying but if you notice if you go REALLY fast in any vehicle the whole vehicle shakes slightly... I just think it's TOO much for the bike... a little road vibration sure, but the amount of movement in those handlebars makes me thing I'm about to fishtail out of control in reality...

Can you at least try the wheel base from the Civilian 4x4 truck and see if that helps at all ?

hmmm theres something not quite right here... seems to be a bit of an absence of leaning, or any other changes for that matter, did you install the new dirtbike correctly? if you watch my video again you will see what i think is missing. Mabe i uploaded the wrong files lol. i will check this out and update accordingly...

Edit: definately the right files. did you follow the readme install instructions? you have to remember to add it to the zip files otherwise it changes nothing. let me know if it works out. A good way to tell is to check and see if you get the camera views.

PS. i toned down the woble effect already.

I followed the instructions verbatim and even renamed the folder pr_dirtbike and I activated it normally through vBF2 community... loaded it up... I didn't notice a HUGE difference and I noticed you're version does "lean" but there wasn't enough 1st person to compare it correctly....

However, I will note that the damage the bike took on rough terrain was alot less than I am used to, so that's an idication that it's installed correctly... I can actually climb small dunes and mountains without too much trouble or having to reduce my speed to a crawl...

hmm im still not convinced tbh. are you able to switch views? if not then it hasnt changed. or try just turning on the spot, the thing should tilt to around 30 degrees (you will have to move forward a little bit to get the bike out of sleep mode).

Edit: i found a slight mistake in the Readme, where it says:
"go into E:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr_EDIT\objects"
you need to replace the "pr_EDIT" bit with your mod name - in your case "pr_dirtbike" but mabe you have done this anyway?

+1

I like what you've done because it makes the driving smoother and more skill is involved with driver/rider prediction when making a turn... just like a real motorcycle.

The current 0.6 motorcycle is very scary. Still easily ridable, but unpredictable because of the shaky steering. This would be a great improvement.

I play racing simulations more than anything, and I'd say this is the best motorcycle I've seen in any BF mod to date. All is left is to have the drivers leg stick out on sharp turns, as well as have his knee come out if possible. But I guess driver models are pretty much stationary in BF vehicles, and cannot be fluid?
