How to aim with the grenade launcher

I searched for this, but I couldn't find anything, so I thought I'd make a new thread about it. I hope this is the right section for it!

I would like to know if there is any specific method on learning how to use the grenade launcher's crosshair for accurate aim. I felt really bad the other day when I killed 3 squadmates with one shot, while I was trying to hit a squad way further than them. It seems that I haven't really figured out how to use the crosshair to calculate, even just approximately, where the grenade is going to land.

Now, I very rarely TK people with the grenade launcher and I try to be as carefull as possible, but that last TK I did made me really embarassed and I never took the GL again for the rest of the day.

Don't take me wrong, I don't use the GL all the time going around shooting people, it's not even my favorite kit. But I believe that it can be very very usefull on some maps and I'd like to know how to handle it when I have to.

I understand that experience and practice makes perfect, but if there is any theory for the basics of aiming with that weapon, I'd like to know

I was defending mine last night on Qwai, had an APC with me, so used the infinte ammo and the APC's zoom to range my shots, took note of how far above X terrain feature/building to aim to hit specific choke points, as well as a sniper giving me some on the fly adjustments when there were moving targets or coming from an unsual direction.

After a while you start to get a feel for it.

you need luck , the GL has random deviation

Create a local server and practice. Use your move marker to figure out approximately what elevation you need for 50-100-200 etc meters.

A good idea, for example, is to take a jeep and drive it to an open area. Than put a move marker on it and move 100 meters away from it. Than try to hit it. If you do you will get the "friendly vehicle damage" warning message. Experiment with various distances and eventually you will get the "feeling" for it.
One more thing. Aways crouch and wait few seconds before firing to reduce the deviation.

I guess it's just experience... remember to stay still for a few seconds before taking to shot as well.

Once you master the distances and elevations, it can be a very effective weapon.

Sometimes in the long range shots, you even have time to get your binocs out to check if you got the correct elevation.

Use the smoke grenade first, see where it lands, then the real thing

We had a complete training on this topic in PELA during C5.

If you ever find Sgt.Princess online (most probably on her own server --> battlearena.com) ask her if she gives you some tips. She was our instructor.

Thanks to her i can now shoot with the UGL moving enemies two full grids away...

Is there a difference between all of the UGLs, and that of the Chinese? It doesn't feel the same.

Eh.. no. GL's in PR and BF2 are kinda different. The PR one goes furthre i think. Anyways they just feel different

The point no-one really addressed is that it has random deviation as Sicario said. There is a nooby way round this though, just aim with sights then take away sights and fire, stops the random deviation.

Its not the same, the grenades range in BF2 is like 40m and you cant kill anything with them, unless it lands on top of someones head.

All im gonna say is pure practice, and opportunity is ample. Since, usually, 0/5 kits have been requested, you'll almost always get one when you try.

You can go offline and practice, and if you edit your python files to some extent, you can have 20 grenadier kits and 0 spawn time, so that you can get as much play time as possible to practice with (get a pall to join you via Hamachi or something and it becomes easier as you have a spotter supplier).
Lay down some attack markers at 50m, on level ground, and then fire away until you are confident you can hit that target 5/7 times. Then, set your distance to 100m and begin judging again until you can hit 5/7.
Try varying your position such as using elevation to advantage and disadvantage and maybe even practice trying to get them in a window of a building.

And no vBF2 is nothing like PR due to the new things added to PR but he can if he wants.
