Im not sure how you can get this into the game and make ppl want to do it but if you want to make it more realistic then you would want to have diffrent roles for tank driver, gunner ect. Would mean maby cramming 5 ppl inside a tank
gunner, driver, reloaded ect

As many of you know that the tank driver, is not also the tank gunner and tank reloader and what other men require to run a tank in battle.

Been suggested before. Personally I think a 100% realistic thing in this case is downright boring.
All it needs is the machinegunner, driver and gunner. That way its simple, yet complicated enough to require at least 2 men for effiecency. 1 guy could drive it alone, but he'd have to stop everytime he wanted to shoot. If seat switching is disabled, he would also have to go out and get in again (and just to be evil, you'd place the exit and entry on opposite sides, hehe).
Sidenote: Same would apply to APCs of course.
Sidenote2: To encourage drivers, driver assists should also give as much score as the one killing... After all, if you werent driving the tank, he wouldnt be there to shoot the enemy.

its not neccesaryly unrealistic if you operate under the guise that the player is actually supposed to be controlling the crew, not just a single person, when in a tank. People need to keep in mind, ever player you take to man extra spots in armor, or player arty, or any of these things, thats a player who's not on the battleifeld as infantry, and its screws the infantry/veihicle ratio is worse. I think tasks that can be readily handled by AI should be, in order to keep the players on the frontlines

My idea (basically DCR)
Driver:
Has view from front of tank (port hole)
Can move the tank itself... thats it
Gunner:
Has view from where the main gun is aimed
Can rotate the cannon (whole main gun top of tank part) with 'a' and 's', raise and lower the cannon with 'w' and 's', and can use the mouse for fine adjustment, the mouse should feel VERY sluggish. this makes the more realistic movement of the tank with wasd.
reloading is still done automatically, but gunenr still has choice of Sabot, HE, and hopefully the abrams will get the 'shotgun' round
Commander:
Has view from top camera/mirror arrangement/whatever
can rotate view 360.
cant drive tank at all
left click says 'move here' and waypoint for tank appears
right click says 'enemy here' and waypoint for enemy here
( think modded version of squad leader, or just do exactly what they did in DCR)
This would apply for APCs as well. (APCS are already wayy to powerful)

But that gives 4 people. You forgot the machinegunner. Which should be the commander but without the left/right click (as that would disable weapon use).Figisaacnewton wrote:My idea (basically DCR)

Keep in mind, in BF2 you can spot and give orders alot easier than in BF1942... So your "right click says 'enemy here'" is basicly q-menu and left click, while maintaining weapon control. Same thing with any other order from the squad/commander/player menu.

have the comander inside his little CITV box with IVIS and have some other blokey on top mowing people down that suits me.
Harrod200:"Fire.exe has committed an illegal operation and has been shut down"
Raniak : "Warning: May crash if fired upon."
M4sherman: "like peter pan but with tanks"
[R-MOD]Eddiereyes909 (on sim tower) "It truly was the game of my childhood and has led to me getting my degree in industrial engineering."

Ok, so maybe the whole special commander spotting thing isnt needed, he just needs to be squad leader.dawdler wrote:But that gives 4 people. You forgot the machinegunner. Which should be the commander but without the left/right click (as that would disable weapon use).

And i didn't put the machien gunner in because he stays the same, no changes.
The main thing behind this is that it makes a tank take at least 2 people switching positions really fast to use at all, and 3 to use well. It'll also move and act more like a real tank, and it'll make it so you don't get the one guy who is just crazy about tanks constantly taking the one tank sort of thing.
