I ran into something I had never experienced before last night playing Basrah, and I'm not sure if it was a bug or a feature. I have not played insurgency maps much since .6 released, so if it's a feature, I assume its to disallow some form of asshattery, but I'm not sure what exactly it accomplishes. Wasn't so much angering as confusing, so I thought I would run it past this forum. Also, I tried searching and looking through the first few pages of bug reports, but did not find anything that looked appropriate.
I was playing on the British team, working with my squad to destroy the insurgent ammo caches. We were deep inside the city, and eventually moved to the southwest and onto the island that used to be the insurgent's main flag when Basrah was AASv2 (the Palace, I think). We located an ammo cache on the sub-roof of one of the buildings, but did not have any proper explosives to take it down. What we did have, however, was two squad members (myself and another individual) with LMG support weapons. So we both unloaded nearly a full clip into the cache simultaneously, and after much smoking and overheating it exploded, critically wounding both of us (we were a little close, I guess). Our medic uses his last defib charge to bring me back to life, and asks for my ammo bag while he heals me. I comply and throw it down, but the bag falls through the roof of the building we are standing on (this is not the problem). Hmm, I think, now what can I do to give the medic ammo? I see an insurgent PKM pickup kit lying nearby, and cannot remember if it carries an ammo bag. Because I'm fairly certain the Militia PKM kit does, I wanted to find out, so I pick it up. Drat, no ammo bag. Because I like the high ROF on the SAW, I then switch back to my original support kit, but am auto killed and given a 1 minute respawn time. I have never seen this before and no one in my squad had heard of it being a rule either. I was just a little confused given that the conventional army team can collect intelligence points by picking up and dropping insurgent kits without being killed. Maybe the same doesn't apply to insurgent pickup kits or kits that have not been used yet? Anyway, I guess my bug report/question is if this auto kill after switching from British LMG -> PKM -> British LMG was by design, and if so, what is it supposed to solve?
Feel free to move/lock/delete this thread if its something I should have already been aware of, or if it shouldn't be in the bug report forum.

i dont think this is bug
you probably fired the last shot that destroyed the ammo dump. when the ammo dump exploded, you were therefore credited with TKing you support buddy through the ammo dump explosion.
remember that PR kills you from taking a teammates (limited?)kit after you tk them, regardless if he/she forgives or not. this is an anti-smacktard measure (not saying ur a smacktard...it was obviously an accident)
im assuming your other support buddy was still critical because ur medic used his last charge on you. after checking the PKM kit for ammo, you probably picked up ur buddy's support kit, not your own support kit!=you get autokilled!
since ur support buddy forgave, you only got 1 min respawn

Did you get a teamkill message on your support buddy when you exploded the ammo dump?
Since the support weapon is a limited kit, if you teamkill a team mate using a support gun and try to pick up the kit, you will die instantly.
I think that's what happened, and nothing to do with switching from brit to insurgent and to brit again. You just tried to pickup a limited kit that you teamkilled a few minutes ago.
EDIT: oops billdan already got it.

Thanks for clearing that up guys, the theory makes sense. I don't specifically recall seeing a teamkill pop up, but I was probably too busy laughing about us both being too close.
However, there is no question in my mind that I picked up the same kit that I originally dropped - I made sure I went back to my kit when I wanted to drop the PKM. However, could it be possible that this is related to the BF2 kit bug where you can get revived with the wrong kit if you are near it? We died pretty close together, but the kits were quite seperate when I dropped PKM/picked up the LMG again. Maybe I got revived with the kit of the player I teamkilled (and it was the same as the one I was carrying, so I didn't know the difference), and when I tried to pick it up again, the game logic kicked in and thought I was taking the kit of the player I just teamkilled?

Well that's no fun[R-DEV]dbzao wrote:It doesn't know *exactly* what kit your teamkilled, we can't do that check. It just knows you teamkilled a guy with a support kit. And if you pickup *any* support kit in the floor, you die.
