Compared to the 85, taking the magazine as scale it looks barely different, ever so slightly shorter stock and barely shorter barrel, all they appear to have done is lop off part of the handguard.

Well it is in like every WW2 game I've ever played on regardless of how realistic it is, rather interesting as to why this convention has continued on these kinda games though when it seems so obviously false. Care to enlighten us Bob?

M1 was fed from the integral box magazine, which was probably the weakest point of the whole design. The magazine was fed using only the 8-rounds clips, which stayed inside the magazine until all 8 rounds were shot. [...] The main drawback of the system was that the clips could not be easily reloaded during the action. However, there still was the possibility to refill the clip in the rifle, but this was not the fastest procedure.

No 'tactical reloads' to make sure you have a full mag, but rapid fire. The M1 came into it's own in the Pacific theatre where throwing a wall of lead at an enemy you can't see was often a better tactic than hunting for them. Even a small number of troops emptying a clip of 8 at an area soon adds up to a lot of lead.

well there is an "old" version of that based off the A1.

That's still an L22 though, the one I posted was only ever made as a few prototypes and never given an L designation, that's why I thought he meant that one when he said there were very few about

The reality is, you can reload an M1 Garand, pull back on the chock and disengage the magazine catch for it to pop out and it is done.

Another Call of Duty 2 misconception is that the British used the M1 Garand, they used the M1 Carbine in Market Garden and fielded the Thompson in numerous forms from 1941 onwards.

That is the first weapon designated L22A1, the weapon was never adopted so the MODs designation was void. When the SA80 AFV (L85 AFV) came along it adopted the L22A2 designation and it is to be issued to specific soldiers in the Army.

you sure?? i swear i have seen video's of royal marines using those things.

i know they use the hand guard on the LSW though.

I think the support class should stay as the "minimi" but it would be a nice cameo to have the GPMG as one of those mounted guns you see on bunkers, I don't think the British mount the GPMG on vehicles, or do they???
