Starting Burst Setting

Post by -=TCW=-Ghost »

I'm not sure if this is possible with the BF2 engine, but it's something that I really miss from some of the Rainbow series. The ability for the player to chose their default burst setting. I ALWAYS use single shot for everything other than the support guns. It's nice to have the other settings for reality sake, and there are those very special occasions that I'll click over to a full auto setting when I know someone is right around the corner. However is it possible to have a selecter in the options? This way if people enjoy full auto and always go that way, or are like me and prefer the aimed shots over small bursts they can choose.

Yeah, I've been thinking that too quite often. Since burst/auto is practically worthless beyond 30m in PRMM, you want single fire in most situations. Its annoying to have to reset it all the time.

Yeah, I hate seeing the default setting as Burst.

I almost never use burst unless the guy is around the corner

I'm not really stating that it needs to be changed. But it would be nice if the option was there. If anyone knows where the option is in a setting file I could just go in and do it manually. But it does sound like at least one other would like the option.

Does it really take that long to change the firing cycle of your weapon in game? Not all firearms have selective settings, and the ones that do are already included. I guess I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that you wish the fire setting to be automatically set right when you spawn rather than having to press the 3 button or reselect the weapon to change it?

I guess my arguement for this would be, as a solider (i'm not) I would assume that you would choose the rate of fire of your weapon to what you want it to be prior to entering a combat situation. You're in the APC getting moved to where combat is, you're not going to have your gun set to full auto when you know you're going to be attacking single targets at greater distances.

Yes it only takes a moment to select this, no I haven't had a problem with it before. However other games have had this modeled and I personally felt it was a nice option.

The only time the British Army have their weapons on automatic are:

CQB / OIBUA
Bunker clearance (conventional warfare)
CP work
Ambushes
Being a support gunner (GMPG, 249, LSW etc)
using up blank ammo to save on the paperwork :P

Personally, I think the BF2 maps are too expansive to effectively use automatic fire, unless laying an ambush, clearing a building, or firing at someone, who, like has been said, is just around the corner :P That's probably about 5% of a round on BF2.
