New DICE Booster Packss

Post by da.SPAWN »

Digital Illusions’ expansion pack Battlefield 2 Special Forces was launched in the end of November 2005. This was the first product Electronic Arts sold directly to consumers over the internet.

The test was so successful that the PC game – another expansion pack to Battlefield 2 – planned for launch during spring 2006 now will be changed to booster packs to be sold online.

Every tenth copy of the expansion pack Battlefield 2 Special Forces was over the Internet, and the rest of the copies were sold to retailers. When games are sold online directly to consumers Digital Illusions earns more money per product than if they are sold through retailers.

- We see online sales as a very interesting channel in the future. Digital Illusions work together with EA to find the best solutions that favours both the consumers and retailers, said Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Digital Illusions.

The Battlefield 2 expansion pack planned to be launched during spring 2006 is now replaced by two booster packs. The change means slightly lower project revenues during the fourth quarter 2005 than during the third, due to a lower development budget. The anticipation though is that this will be compensated by higher royalty revenues during the first six month 2006.

The expansion packs in the Battlefield series have new maps, vehicles and weapons. Each Battlefield booster pack will have new but fewer maps, vehicles and weapons. Instead they are sold to a lower price: 9.99 USD. An expansion pack is usually sold at between 19.90 USD and 29.90 USD. Today at least two Battlefield 2 booster packs are planned for spring 2006.

sorry to say but for me they are blody wankers....
squezing the last cent out of the guys but it gets a realistic touch now

Wanna bet that in order to have that level 10 assault unlock (alot better than all the other rifles) on public BF2 servers you have to buy a boost pack every month for a low low fee oddly enough matching the rough fee of an online MMORPG?

I think this is an interesting shift in approach by Dice.

People like to bash EA, its become the trendy thing to do. Remember folks we live in a capitalist society. The name of the game is to make money. Love it or hate it there trying to make money off computer games. When its pretty much common knowledge that consoles are where all the money's at. Im not saying its an excuse its just the way things are.

Ill be happy if they make them. I just agree that they should fix BF2 and SF before hand.

America was a tad late into the First World War. They redeemed themself's and came in slightly sooner in the Second. Now they seem determined to start the Third.

Its a fact aswell that well over 80% of computer games will not make a profit (Thanks to PC gamer for that one!). So to be fair, in some areas, you need to make a profit in some way to make up for losses you may be incurring form other parts. get my drift or not really?

Yea i know. Buying them is your decision, so many people i talked to swore off buying SF but within a week had it anyway. If you dont want to get it thats your choice.

Anyone want to buy Core Combat? Four caves to fight in, a couple of guns and a tank or two! Come on! Buy the $30 expansion pack that features 1/10th the content of the $50 game plus montly fee!

I'm pretty right wing in most of my views on things, but I still hate EA either way. I think its a subconsious grudge against them for ruining the glory that could have been BF2 (my baby!) , but more seriously, they have dismissed completely the idea of customer support. Only two things could make that change:

1) Some sort of gov. agency that checks this **** and makes sure companies hold a high standard... but that would be expensive to maintain, and be too authoritarian...

2) People getting smarter, and realizing that they have their own brains to make thier own decisions. This is, unfortunately, out of the question...
