SA80 Series

Post by Rhino »

As your planning on getting the SA80 into PR with all the other britsh weapons (thank you so much) I thought i might go over the whole arear of the SA80 just to make sure you didnt miss any of it.

Now the simapl L85A1 and L85A2 are both very simmualr, just 1 jams more than the other  and im sure you will be getting them into the mod with no probs. Just keep the accruacy high on them and leave the site as it is, in my oppinue its by far the best gun in BF2. So plz, make it more realistic by all means but dont make it **** or i will hate this mod

UNDERSLUNG GRENADE LAUNCHER (UGL)
Image
The SA80 Underslung Grenade Launcher (UGL) system consists of a Heckler & Koch AG-36 40mm grenade launcher and ladder sight fitted to the SA80. It is to be issued to infantry units on a scale of one per fire team. It will allow the fire team to deliver effective fragmenting munitions out to 350 metres. Advantages of the UGL system are low recoil, ease of use, reduced ammunition weight and the ability to have a chambered grenade at the ready whilst continuing to fire the SA80.

The system is currently fielded with Practice and High Explosive (HE) ammunition natures. In time, the UGL’s ammunition types will be expanded to include illumination and smoke rounds. There will be six UGLs per platoon resulting in greatly increased flexibility and weight of fire. Longer term enhancements to the system may eventually include a Fire Control System, extended range ammunition and buckshot rounds for close-quarter battle.
bits i made bold wher 1 per fire team and smoke rounds. The smoke rounds should be easy to code, just replace the smoke nade code with the exsplison code and leave the nade on the ground... But the "1 per fire team" would be quite hard, but would mean less noob tubing thou i aint seen alot of that in PRMM since you have made it so hard to use (thank you) :D

The SA80 Rifle Grenade

I dont know excatly what to think of this. This is the first time ive seen this and i was just doing afew searches on pics for the SA80 when i saw this....

LSW and UGl should be entering PR, however I am not at liberty to say. the rifle grenade however, has a less likely apperance ingame. Again, am not at liberty to speak on this topic as i don't know.

the UGL is the direct replacement for the rifle grenade. AFAIK, the only ones still with em are Specialist Engineer Units (EOD Units). Also, the only external aesthetic differences between the L85 A1 & A2 are that the A2s have black gas parts, have 'H&K' stamped on the top of the butt, behind the chin rest, and has a differently shaped cocking handle, making it easier to use with gloves in cold conditions. There's hundreds of differences, but the rest are internal working part changes. The mag's heavier and made of metal now too.

And on a side note....

Do they still use them? I thopught they were slowly "phased out" and safer means of pre detonation of armanats were found. Such as an incendary rifle round. Didn't know that, thanks for the info gaz!

I heard somewhere that the MOD was "considering re-designating" the LSW as a Designated Marksman weapon.

Most probably a load of bull though.

Really Gay Guy

America was a tad late into the First World War. They redeemed themself's and came in slightly sooner in the Second. Now they seem determined to start the Third.

any chance you could get the L85A1 from BF2 into BF2 as a extra weapon for a kit cos im allready missing it and even a realistic m16 cant match upto it by a long way

also you going to add new sounds to the SA80, it sounds really rubbish in BF2, only thing i dont like about it :-P

The old mags were made of metal too, Gaz. STNMAG (forget the exact name!) aluminium jobbies they use on the M16's (well, I think most NATO 5.56 rifles accept them... with the exception of the FAMAS because we all know the French are awkward gits). The old ones didn't fit properly and dented easily, so HK made us some stronger slightly larger steel ones. I'm lead to believe the US are also getting these newer mags for some units aswell because of their success with our blokes in Iraq and Afghanistan, they really cut down on feed issues.

You're thinking of STANAG, which stands for Standardization Agreement. Actually, the FAMAS F2 does use a STANAG magazine housing so it can accept M16/L85 pattern magazines. The G36 does not, however.

Since STANAG was brought up, wasn't that a problem with the XM-8 program? The use of proprietory magazines.

No, I don't think so. They used the same upgrade the Germans used for their G36's which allows them to use the same NATO magazines as everyone else when needed. It accepts the STANAG's and the clear plastic ones they use (which are better because they're lighter and allow you to see how many rounds you have left... they damage quite easily though from what I'm told).

Also I know the F2 accepts M16 mags, but it's quite a recent change and I couldn't resist a stab at the French, being British and all (and no it's not a "phase", it's British tradition! Mutual friendly pee taking!).
