My suggestion for planes and the mapsize combination.

Post by Ali G »

So the basic complaint about planes is that it needs a HUGE map for it to operate. This is all fine and dandy with maps such as Kashan, but sometimes the open field may be boring in some player's eyes. So here's my suggestion that marries the needs of the plane and the size of the map so that both may compliment each other in harmony.

So essentially imagine Kashan, with the air field spawning AIRCRAFTS ONLY. Tanks and other vehicles will have to spawn at the mainbase within the potential combat zone. The main flags can/cannot be set to uncap depending on preferences, but that's situational.

So imagine any generic urban map in PR, expect add an extended airfield that is WAY outside of the combat zone, and what you will get is perfection. Now I realize that maps like Basrah and Kashan have the essential ingredients, but what's missing still is the fact that it's still too open in some parts where "firefights" can happen. Where my idea differs is that an airfield is strictly for aircrafts, with the added bonus CQC in the city.

So what do you guys think?

when you make a 4x4 km map , the sqUares grid become bigger , making the terrain looking less detailed , and impossible to make a city (unless is flat)

dont think is going to happen

Well I've never tried making maps in BF, so sorry if I didn't know. But what's wrong with a flat city? Ejod desert is relatively flat, just extend the map and add remote airfields at both extreme ends. Or is that impossible?

well its interesting, not a plane only map fan, but the tools are out to make this. I would try downloading it and see what you can do. It allot more fun then you might think.

Mean while I'm working on my map. But its not going so well :_D

this is more or less how Qinling is laied out sort of. I have planned it so that there is a focuses point for the combat and the rest of the map is pretty much unused apart from choppers, jets and flanking areas.

with kashan it really started off with no plan and why the flags are to be honest, really badly placed from a gameplay point of view...

Does that affect roads as well? It doesn't affect buildings and Kashan's level of ground detail is acceptable in my eyes. I don't think that'd be a particularly big problem.
This signature is here due to lack of imagination.

We wish, that would be 64km^2.

Kashan is 4 by 4, or ~16km^2

yes , but it has some problems with the terrain , like the 4x4 square in the midle will be detailed as kasrahn but the rest of the map will be in low detail .

Very good news to hear! I only wish that more maps would follow this structure. This way you have concentrated fire zones like an urban environment, but also with air support coming from afar. But I have a question regarding Qinling, where does the vehicles and tanks spawn at? The airfield, or another separated spawn point closer to the combat zone?
