Projectile trials
Meant to say TRAILS not trials.
This seems like a simple thing to change as its removing and not adding something from the game.
Grenade launcher smoke trail needs to be totally gone and look like a hand grenade, just the object and no smoke trial.
Sraws and the like the trail should be reduced to almost nothing or gone completely.
HJ8 needs to be reduced also. Is it possible to only have smoke on the inital launch and then dissipate in flight?
Smoke trails look conry as hell and give away your position esp when you are trying to kill armour who can zoom in.
I also think tracers for MGs need to be removed or reduced to like 1 in 20. Tracers are pointless.

Pointless? Its there so you can see what everyone else is firing at. Without tracers, you'd never know where trying to shoot and where the enemy is. Lighting up an enemy isnt just a myth of the battlefield, I thinkSiN|ScarFace wrote:I also think tracers for MGs need to be removed or reduced to like 1 in 20. Tracers are pointless.

In reality tracers are every 5th round in LMG's and so on (well, that's the general set up at least).
Rockets have smoke trails, just not as thick as they are. Also they should be sped up a hell of a lot. If anything it should have a lot of smoke on launch, that shoots out the back then go to nothingness, then explode when it hits (obviously) making more smoke than fireball (something that annoys me in films and games, its all huge impressive fireballs, when in reality HE generally tends to be mainly smoke and dust).

IRL tracers are how a minigunner finds his target. Eyeball the range and adjust for speed, what side of the aircraft you are on, then shoot. Then walk your rounds onto target.
By the way did you know that the bulets actually right and high of your aim point when shooting from the left side of the aircraft and left and low from the right side of the aircraft? It's cause of the way the bullets spins (clockwise) and the forward airspeed makes that happen. It's pretty interesting to see happen the first time you shoot.

Interesting, never knew that! But then I never really thought about why they seemed to do that either. Learn something new every day!Noetheinner wrote:IRL tracers are how a minigunner finds his target. Eyeball the range and adjust for speed, what side of the aircraft you are on, then shoot. The smoke trails in BF2 are not only unrealistic but plain ugly. Which genious at DICE thought that smoke was a solid white line that followed a rocket or grenade? Drop them from weapons that shouldn't have them and make them better for the few that should, Hydras come to mind for that one.
Tracers should stay though, definately realistc and if we get any night maps in the mod eventualy they'll be all glowy and pretty... =P

Having spent an enormous amount of time using a M203 IRL I can say they do not leave a smoke trail when fired. If possible, this should be eliminated. Also, their accuracy leaves alot to be desired in this mod. They are actually very accurate weapons.
I understand it was toned down because of complaints. Maybe too much. Although it is accurate, it's burst radius IRL is only 5 meters. The hand grenade is 15 meters, so it's not as powerful of an explosion.
Just for the hell of it, I'd like to see the grenadier class have a choice of ammo like the engineer has. We had 5 different types of rounds to use. they were HE, HEDP, flare, CS (Gas) & a buckshot round that trust me, you did not want to be in front of!

ye but i bet he wasnt jumping up and down and going prone in mid air while doing thissolodude23 wrote:Yeah I think the M203 accuracy was toned down a bit for balance, but your very right about their accuracy Mtnman. I saw a video the other day where some Marines shot them at this truck's tires pretty far out. They hit it dead on. They easily not only had the range, but the accuracy.

i agree, after the V1.2 BF2 patch, noobtubing will no longer be an exploit! so you could put back all the awesomeness of the m203 without fear of exploitation.
also i agree, kill the smoke trail on the m203, it looks ridiculous..
the smoke trails on the rocket launchers leave alot to be desired as well
