Commander Voting

Post by Harrod200 »

Would it be possible to change the way in which Commanders are appointed? Currently if a rather...poor Commander gets the job, since even a poor player gains in-game 'ranks' quickly it is nearly impossible to remove him (since the current system sees his high 'rank' and appoints him over everyone else as he is 'superior'.). This means that unless there is a successful kick vote (which I've never seen), he resigns or is booted by an admin then the whole team can be scuppered time and time again by a commander wasting tickets by placing assets in useless places.

Would it be possible to make it so that when someone applies to be commander everyone on the side is given a poll to either agree or object. More than 50% of your voting team objects and you are rejected (and possibly barred from trying again for x minutes?) and the position is free for someone more experienced/sensible to take.

And if possible, bring back mutiny voting :) They may rarely pass is BF2v but given the increased teamwork and maturity of the PR community they'd stand a far better chance.

Is there no way of making it so the proverbial voter turnout doesn't have to be quite so high? Or is that a sever side setting? How would you know who to vote for anyway? Obviously there are regulars on servers, but if you vote in some random guy cos he convinces you to and is terrible, then how you gonna get him out?

Don't forget that the solution may not work either.
Just try to imagine: SomeGuy wan't to become a commander of XXX team. Press Page Up to vote or Page Down to vote no.
"Hmmm, he's got a stupid name" PAGE DOWN
"He had more points than me !" PAGE DOWN
"I don't like the color of his eyes" PAGE DOWN
and so on.

I agree with the mutiny thing. AFAIK you need more than 50% of yes to have a vote pass. No matter if there are 1,2,3 or 32 ppl voting. This is not right.

On the subject does a no vote actually make any difference? Or is it just the same as not voting in the first place?

AFAIK not voting is a same think as voting no. But I may be wrong.

It's just that the stats don't change when people vote no. Just says it needs so many yes votes and the number needed doesn't increase when I've voted no, so I can't think of how it might effect it.

Mutiny votes should be a Quarter of numbers, not half since currently they don't work becuase of people not caring to vote.

Anyway, Commander votes might not work for the reasons stated by deadfast.

Well on the servers i've played (mainly TB) there are regular commanders who are known to be good (and I fill the place when I notice halfway thru a round it's empty), and there are some known to be...not so good. It may be wishful thinking but I believe that the PR community is mature enough not to vote a commander out for your reasons, but it admittedly could happen. I think unless it's masses of coding then it could be at least worth a try for one public/in private testing and if it does turn out to be people constantly saying no all the time for no real reason then it can be taken out and leave mutiny in tact.

Mutiny is a must though. I think 50% is too high, but if no is the same as null then it's the only. If no isn't null and actually counts as a no vote then it could probably be lowered to 30%, with each no vote cancelling out a yes.

Whole-heartedly agree. There needs to be mutiny options.

the problem with voting is that it's so annoying that most people have it turned off. you get these jackass players that incessantly call the same vote over and over and over (even though they are getting like 5 votes max per time). the last thing we need is to add a round of voting before someone becomes commander. you'll get the same 10 turkeys deciding who becomes commander every time because no one else ever bothers voting.

i cant stand having voting enabled on my game. DICE created the worst voting system i have ever seen...

<edit> i've yet to see a vote of any kind work on a server with more than 10 people...
