As far as I can see, right now helis are the only problem in PR.
Yeah, there are a load of others but they are being fixed 'n such.
I have a lot of problem with helis, including the tipping over, the way they fly, etc.
For one, they should not fly like a jet. they are WAY to easy to barrel roll flip over, whether you're on the ground or in the air
A lot of them have balance issues, like the forward rolling thing that the small helis do, and sometimes they put you into an unrecoverable dive, where it pitches forward, and you're flying half upside down, nose to the ground, and you just go straight down and can't pull up.
and finally, something has to be done about spawns. I want more helis! In this game, they play an important role, but its really easy to get shot down! so you end up spawning back at base and waiting there for 10 minutes just for the transport chopper. eeegh.
if anything though, just decrease sensitivity on the roll (left to right) axis, so we dont do the flippy thingy when we try to land all the time.

Every iteration (patch) has changed the helicopters slightly, and I've gotta say I've been happy with all the changes so far. The LBs lost a bit of maneuvering capability in 0.609 (or maybe I'm imagining things) but they're still GREAT![R-DEV]Rhino wrote:the choppers and jets still need work and they are not final, there is always room for improvement and the BF2 engine aint easy to work with so all in good time![]()
Pretty much my only gripe is still how topheavy the LBs appear to be. Even a 2% incline (ie a small lump) on the ground causes them to tilt all the way over, only recoverable with some fancy spinning and rotor work. I'm not sure if it's realistic or fixable... but that's the only thing that gets me... doing high speed insertions only to land on a TINY incline, ending in me gunning it to stop flipping over... ending up as a carcass in a tree.

Solution 1: Don't land. Just hover very close to the ground.

That site I quoted is an excellent general flight reference, particularly for rotary wing aircraft. Here's a good explanation of dynamic rollover.

its called stalling (nothing to do with my name BTWunrecoverable dive, where it pitches forward, and you're flying half upside down, nose to the ground, and you just go straight down and can't pull up.
landing the helicopter is too easy in my opinion, and you can always decrease your own sensitivity settings.if anything though, just decrease sensitivity on the roll (left to right) axis, so we dont do the flippy thingy when we try to land all the time.
Nice informative post however, well done
thanks, pete
