every time I try to join a game, the game crashes to the desktop. what's goin on?

Make sure you:
a) have 0.61
b) are trying to connect to a 0.61 server - they should all have 0.61 in the server name.

1) were you running retail version of BF2 fine
2) have you got retail patch v1.41 installed?
3) Whats's the specs of your pc if you couldn't get retail BF2 to work either.

Don't forget, everyones pcss are different hardware and software wise and supplying all the information you can (within reason) is recommended when asking for help over the internet to get to the problem.

It's probably just not got the latest PR patch. I crashed cos I thought it was a server side thing...
