Is this mod similar to americas army

My first online military fps was americas army and I was hooked ever since and before i download the mod I wana know if this is anything like it? And can I play normal bf2 when the mod is instaled, i never realy used a mod like this before.

Nothing like it...and yes...you can play original BF2 with this mod installed.

Hi Pearlsea and welcome!

I guess you could say that Project Reality is more similar to America's Army than regular BF2. ;) The best way to evaluate this is to give it a try.

As for your second question; yes, you can install Project Reality and still be able to play normal BF2. The mod does not effect this at all and doesn't change any of your original BF2 game files.

Be sure that you download and install the mod (PRMM v0.2) AND the hotfix (PRMM v0.2 REV 1).

what u on about, this mod is very much like AA, espicaly that m16, they sound and act excatly the same now :wink:

I would have to agree with Rhino with such small maps constantly in rotation on the GH servers its getting to feel more and more like AA, I hope the full mod doesnt end up like that.

if you have played both games a lot, then they arn't really that simlar, as PR has larger maps with vehicles, and respawning, so gameplay isn't as slow and methodical as AA, more blitzkrieg style lately.

however, in terms of more basic gameplay dynamics, it is much closer to AA than normal BF2. basically, guns actually hurt people, and they behave like real guns. you also cannot jump 8 feet in the air.

I downloaded the minimod and played with it against the computer for a while and I have a few pros and cons (think of the cons as constructive critisism).

The pros are that the guns act like real guns where they actualy do realistic damage, unlike in normal bf2. The m249 saw is incredibly improved (yay, alot more like AA).the anti tank kit is improved. I like the ability to scope/zoom in tanks and apc but i did like the smoke launcher in the vanilla bf2, oh well, this also goes for the perminant defence guns. Its alot easyer to shot down helicopers now, before i was never realy good with the old aa missles. Lower tank hp is good, you can take them down easaly with 2 AT rockets. Also the AI was smart enough to throw nades. Sniper class is as useless as ever :) .

Also there were a few cons, There is no health indicator of any kind, so as far as you know you can have one bar of health left, maybe you can add a colour system (green yellow red). I always liked the UAV cause im use to having to capture flags on my own and it made it less of a suiside run and it adds to the normal bf2 gameplay but i guess its not realistic (not that fps are realistic in the first place). I dint like that the minimap was taken away, its pretty helpful even if there is no teammates or enemys on it. The enginer class got some of the coolness taken out of it, like only 2 at mines and i dint notice the shotgun being any powerful. The medic class got its appeal taken away from it cause you cant instant heal with the first-aid packs anymore but atleast the m16 is inproved. There is no way to cook nades.

I should probably play this online for a bit before i make a final verdict.

I only downloaded the minimod, not the hotfix so i hope that fixes the random grapgical anoyances (like weapon selection pics and spawnpoint selection ect).

Also i relised that anything in the bf2 engine probably cannot be like americas army without some specialised maps, and even then it wont be close.

Yes, when the this mod comes more than a mini mod and u have planes flying over head bombing the shit out of every 1 and lots and lots of tanks ect it wont feel so much like AA :wink:

Pearlsea, when in a tank, push 1 2 and 3 to switch between Sabot, HEAT and smoke. X zooms in (or whatever your sprint button is i think) and out in the main gun view. after pushing 3, left click and smoke comes out.

Please get the hotfix! It makes a huge difference.

To address some of your points.
You do have a health indicator of sorts. If you are wounded you will start to bleed out. The screen will periodically flash red. If you don't get to a medic you'll die.

The engineer class can now select buckshot or slug ammuntion for the shotgun. Try the shotgun with slug at close range! Messy!

ok il try that. One thing i forgot to mention was i dont like the removal of the death indicator, i always liked to know who i killed and who killed me with what weapon, And did prmm fix the m203 arming problem in the origional bf2, cause in real life m203 arms after 25m-ish but in vanilla bf2 it arms immidiatly, id check it my self now but im busy, i hope u fixed it.

Unfortunately, for the latest release, a fix for this could not be implemented but I can assure you it is an issue to the Dev team and will hopefully be fixed.

10 meters (32 feet) till an HEDP grenade arms according to my training and my training is current. 25 meters is close to 30 yards (over 80 feet)!
