Commander trucks for transport

Post by charliegrs »

Hi, i really like the 5 ton trucks they added in PR for the commanders but i was wondering, could you add these trucks for regular transport use without the commander abilies like building things etc. no gun, can be driven by anyone, can hold the max soldiers the game allows {i think 8?} and would have 1 purpose, get soldiers to the battle as quick as possible. maybe change the skin a tiny bit to differentiate it from the commander truck. this truck would be perfect on a big map like kashan where the battle is usually quite far from the main base. and most importantly the truck is already modelled.

now you may be saying why not just take a hummer? well for 1, a hummer has a gun. the 5 ton truck would add another element, you have to be careful, drop the troops off behind a hill or something, you cant just drive right into the battle. second, the hummer doesnt hold as many troops. in kashan, for example, you could pick up all the people waiting for a ride at the main base and get them all to the battle faster. third, what a target this would be! a truck full of soldiers, and you have a light AT, oh man that would feel so good to put a rocket through the side and watch your point skyrocket. anyway thats my suggestion and i think it would be easy to implement thanks for reading.

You have the APC. Why not use the stealthy, fast, amfibious and lethal Troopcarrier, instead of a slow and noisy "Transport-truck"?
You know?

Sometimes the commander truck is deployed this way. I remember a few nights ago on Road to Kigon'Ni a full truck of enemies drove in while my squad was just heading down a hill. A SAW went off, I started shooting grenades and everyone was just puring fire upon this poor truck. Two guys made it a little bit away, running for their lives as bullets and explosives landed all around eventually killing them.

Summary: Humvees and other light transports are fine for this role. In most cases Ma Deuce is a defensive weapon.

If anything, the insurgency could be given a truck. Regular armies have APCs and cars.

oh i put this thread in the wrong section mods do you think you could move this to suggestions?

and i agree about giving the insurgents and milita a truck

however everyone whos saying why not take an apc, because one is not always available, this would simply give you another option for transport. what would you rather do, wait all day for a an apc, walk, or take the available 5 ton truck and give a bunch of guys who are also waiting a lift? id take the truck. this can be easily added and wouldnt throw off the balance at all.

i think any military would use 5 ton trucks more than APCs.
apcs are expensive, hard to maintain, not very fuel efficient and slow.
5-ton trucks are cheap, fairly fuel efficient, easy to maintain and drive.

at least half of any military's vehicles are support, why not make them common on the battlefield and have APCs be the shining cavalry that arrives when your squads truck has flipped over and you're pinned down.

probably if we are talking about overall usage.
But if we are talking about frontline combat situations (which is what pr is) I don't think that you would see too many 5 ton trucks.

I agree, trucks would be a good addition. Why waste a valuable asset when all you want to do is to get to one point from another.

I think only militia should use these in any number for pure troop transportation.

5 ton trucks are death traps they get shot at, flip over and are big noisy targets. you can add them if you want (don't), but I'll never have my squad using them

I know what would be better than this a Road Train :P but It's a good Idea but will people use it to transport troops or will they get in by themselfs and go to where they want to go and dump it?

Well i like the idea, it will be overly eciting roling up in that big loud thing looking for a spot to unload safely. You just have to look a head with more care figuring out what to expect. And who knows what will happen in the near future, seeing how expensive war is becoming, maybe the army will try to cut costs and use up more of their expendible (cheaper?) resources again.
And all vehicles are death traps more or less when they are ambushed, or in places they shouldn't be.

im glad some people agree with me,

and yeah its a deathtrap, you cant always have the luxury of armor and a 25mm cannon to protect you. thats why you dont drive it into the middle of a firefight, you park it close to the action but where no one can see. or make a convoy, with a hummer leading the way followed by the truck that way you have some protection.

and some of guys are already doing this with the commander truck anyway!
