You see in Saving Private Ryan they had no clue what to do to the guy except pump him full of morphene.

On Band of Brothers (Which I've been told is pretty realistic but feel free to correct them) people get shot aaaaaall the time and generally just end up in the field hospital, I think pretty much the whole platoon gets shot in the arse come to think of it. Obviously that's WWII weaponry but there's one distinctly nasty and depressing episode before the siege of Foy in which pretty much every fucker gets shot and lives through it apart from one guy, till the German arty started raining in of course...

Still though alot of the stuff other then explosions, head shots and getting really cut up by high calibre rounds or MGs people seem to live through from what I've seen.

My father knew a guy (polish soldier, don't remember his name) that was fighting on Monte Cassino during WW II. He was shot 9 times with a machinegun (MG-42 probably) during assault. He was hit mainly around stomach (9 bullet holes from side to side) and he manage to servive.
