Idea for vehicles

Post by budvarholsten »

Hi guys, firstly thanks to all the pr guys for the best mod I ever played.
A few of you may have seen me on the battlefield, I play under the name Lexus@(gp).
Sorry if this has already been suggested, but I did a search and didn't find anything.
Since .61 came out you stopped crewmen from having a wrench, which I can totally understand as it did tend to make the tank battles a bit of fire a shot, get hit, repair, fire a shot, get hit repair, you get the picture.
The only problem now is that it does tend to make the tanks a bit unplayable as they don't tend to last long unless at the hands of a really, and I mean really effective squad. It's a bit boring for an engineer to just sit there waiting to repair a vehicle when needed, so I think maybe a change is perhaps needed to the class.
My idea is how about making the tank a class where maybe an enginneer can drive a tank, but not sit in the gunners position, and perhaps likewise, a gunner cannot drive or repair a tank. That way it would still encourage teamplay with the tanks, while giving the engineer something to do other than just sit waiting for something to do. Also it means that team work is essential to operating a tank, which in real life is the case.
Another method around this is by having a crewman carry a wrench, but not being able to sit in the gunners position.
I think it would stop these peolple who make off with a tank on their own as it is useless without a second person to help, which encourages teamplay, while giving the engineer something to do.
Too many times I see a tank driven off with one guy in it only to get destroyed quickly because nobody can be arsed to just sit there occasionaly being able to help out.
The tank is one of the most valuble assets on the battlefield, so lets make it impossible to use without a dedicated two man crew being able to use it!
I'm far from a tank whore btw, I may use it once in every thiry games, I would just like to see it used more effectively. The same rules could even apply to the apc's.
I'm not sure if it is even possible to code this way.
Please don't flame me, it is just my 2p's worth to try and make pr an even more teamwork essential game.
Opinions please..

I dont agree, a Crewman is a Crewman, Engineer is a Support character. even if its a boring job it ads better gaming experience and reality

I appreciate that it adds reality, but I have a friend in the royal engineers (reme)(british) and he and his collegues are qualified to drive tanks for both recovery and maintenence dutys.
I just think it would serve 4 purposes,
1. stop one man bands in tanks
2. encourage teamplay
3. preserve tanks
4. make it more interesting for enginneers

You can just have 2 crewmen and then an engineer on the 50, laying chilly.
If you wanna go the whole 9yrds, get another engine to follow on in a repair car.

The only problems there though are that again, sitting in a repair car is boring (or can we have a tv in the dashboard with porn? lol) and generally, I've found that sitting on the fifty is usually a waste of time as you are so far away from the action, particularly on the desert maps, you don't see much too shoot, and you may as well carry a big sign saying "snipers, get your easy kill here!"
Plus like I say again, it stops one guy taking a tank on his own (sorry to repeat myself)

Hmm, so you propose making it so that the tank positions are limited thusly;

Driver; Engineer
Gunner; Crewman
.50; Unrestricted

I like it in one way, in that it'll prevent solo-ing, but it also cuts down the need for teamwork. I like the current system, and if repairing the tank when it needs it is too boring for you, try joining a squad doing something different like infantry work.

I don't think it cuts down the need for teamwork, quite the opposite in fact. And yes I do find it boring waiting around a tank just to repair it,
like I said in my original post, nine times out of ten I don't use the tanks or apc's, I do in fact more often than not tend to play infantry.

Just one more quick point to throw in as well, and it may cut down on the realism a bit, but could the apc's be made to not have such a high raise on the main gun, it's far to easy for them to shoot choppers down at the moment, which in a lot of games especialy on the maps with the dam and the other map which is a remake of the vanilla map on the beach (sorry I cant remember the names). More often than not it makes for a one sided game where the yanks can harldy even get off the carrier. At least then the choppers could come in from a mid to high altitude without being shot down in seconds. Not very realistic I know but it would make it a bit fairer for the yanks.

I dont remenber who came out with that idea

-Crewman sould carry A spare part, just enought to make small repairs and get to an engeneer.
It should only be usuable once
And dont forget that usually, tankcrews have to repair their own vehicule on the battlefield (patch it up at least) and then go for a full repair at their main base

Ireally liked it, but dont remember who came up with it

Ya yesterday i hit a pole and started smoking and no one would help and then i died from a AT rocket. I could of stoped it if i had a small repair job then a lucky L-At shot couldnt of killed me.

Militia crewmen REALLY need a wrench. Yesterday i killed a BTR with 5-6 nades from my GL... Using the BTR is fun untill someone brings a pistol
