I think even running a 16 player sized map with no armor, then a 32 player sized map with armor is fine.
There's a script about the adjust the map size selection based on # players on the server which might also help.
I don't think Fritz would do aything to seriously alienate a chunk of the server population.

Actually Fritz has no plans to alienate anyone. The concensus is that 16player maps are just way too freakin small for armor. The Idea is that all 16 player maps will have armor removed. (This includes Karkand 32player.) We will then have the 32 player maps with the armor also on the server. This has been the plan for day one.Quote:

I think most people want their armor under favorable conditions, that being enough players on a server.
Easy solution to that, for example:
Round 1: Karkand 16p (modded, no armor)
Round 2: Karkand 32p (unmodified 16p copy, no rules)
*next map*
Round 1: Kubra Dam 16p (modded, no armor)
Round 2: Kubra Dam 32p (unmodified 16p copy, no rules)
*etc*
Amazingly simple, is it?

By the design I mean that you simply copy the 16p files to the 32p folder, then modify the 16p folder. BF2 sadly doesnt support new player counts (24p for example). If one still want to use the 32p version, employ the 64p folder for the 16p mod.
We (I) do not hate armor entirely But we do believe with what appears to be the majority that 16 player maps are way too small for armor. The Idea is to continue the 40sec spawn times and It is far too easy for a tank or apc to cross an entire 16player map before anyone can spawn with at to try and thwart the armor.
We are also trying to solve the problem with Maps like Gulf of oman 32 + 62 player not Supporting AAS correctly. Once these are fixxed and hopefully with the increase of players we will be able to keep the large maps full and Then we wouldnt have to worry about the scripts would we!!
Btw This game even without armor is nothing like Counterstrike or Americas army. Do either of those games really have support classes even close to Battlefield 2?? Or the level of teamwork needed to play?
