For those looking for some adventure:
http://files.filefront.com/Black+Hawk+D ... einfo.html
download this updated map. its big, its the editor version.
Put it in mods/pr/levels and make SURE it is named "Black_Hawk_Down" without the IronTaxi part...
Now, go here:
http://rex3d.net/bf2/files/tools/packing/
and download the file BF2_Pack_v03.1.zip.
(If your antivirus is at all capable of doing its job, youll get some warnings, dont worry, its just because you are downloading/unpacking a zip that has several .bat/.cmd type files, and that, if you are not sure of what the contents are, can be bad news. I have done this and so has Onil, and our PCs are doing just fine. It just shows that your Antivir is working. *pats antivir on back*)
Extract this downloaded zip into your mods/pr folder (once done, you should have 5 command files and a folder called "_BF2_Pack" in your PR folder)
Now, follow these instructions:
Edit the file __MODNAME.cmd by right clicking and clicking edit(or open in notepad) and change the MyMod to PR (the name of your pr mods folder, which SHOULD be PR anyway). Save and exit. <-- hoenstly I dont think this is needed, but hell, do it anyway
Now, go into the "_BF2_Pack" folder, and then into the "pack" folder and make a copy of "Pack_LEVEL_Gulf_of_Oman.bat" and paste it in the same folder. Now, rename the copied file to "Pack_LEVEL_Black_Hawk_Down.bat"
And THEN, edit this Pack_LEVEL_Black_Hawk_Down.bat command (open in notepad or right click and "Edit") it to say Black_Hawk_Down instead of Gulf_Of_Oman.
Make sense?
Now, save this. Close it. (make sure you have my map in your pr/levels folder, and that in levels/Black_hawk_Down there are the folder and such and not another Black_Hawk_Down folder) And Double Click "Pack_LEVEL_Black_Hawk_Down.bat"
It will pack my map for you to play. it will put the server.zip and client.zip into your levels folder (for me, it put them right into my Black_Hawk_Down folder, but not for Onil) So the files will prolly be in your PR/levels folder. Just drag and drop them into my map folder and you are good to go. load it up in create local, 64 players... And have fun.
Leave feedback. Its getting there... IronTaxi is looking at it currently and will give me tons of help I am sure ^_^
So thank him if you ever see him!
And please... If you cant get it working.... ughh... pot here I guess... But PLEASE, just red my instructions, they should be correct. Dont try this if you know nothing about computers
Might get a bit too confusing... but hell, I did it, right?

wow. this is stunning. really gives a nice feel of "o my gosh, i'm screwed" if you're playing an american stuck in the city.
just some things i noticed which you might be looking into.
1) city looks kinda.. to clean... i saw you making some piles up alongside into buildings, but i dunno, didnt seem as grity as it should be. However, i have to say, those flaming tire blockades.... wow. that's some grade a work okita.
2) Bushes, cans, boxes, and statics in general seem to render still at a really close range. i'd be flying over by where the radio tower is on the hill in E3, and the boxes, and wheelbarrow wouldnt render till about.. 10 meters or something like that. might be something with the engine, i'm not totally sure, but stuff just doesnt feel like it renders at the range it should be at. If i compare stuff in basra to this, basra statics seem to render from a farther distance away than they do in this map. Something just on the aestitic side.
----EDIT---> Great use of the camoflauge netting, really nice touch two thumbs up <---
3) US Checkpoint: Greatly improved than previous versions. Looks really well developed, but would a checkpoint really be that close to the city? It looks good either way, it just seems like if an american wakes up from the tent, they could simply have a grenade lobbed into their sleeping quarters from one of the rooftops or construction buildings. Also, on the North Side of the Checkpoint, you have like this.. roofed in area, with nothing underneath. Were you planning on putting some tables down there as like.. a shabby command post or something? maybe some tables with maps laid out, and some chairs or stools?
4) Do you plan on putting spawn cars inside the city? otherwise, it'll be a mad rush for the insurgents to get from their two spawn points on the left side of the map to get into the city. Will there be more usable vehicles (trucks) scattered also throughtout the city? or just at the main bases? This lack of vehicles in the city would allow the US Attack Lbs/Blackhawks to focus their attack on two points, than all around the city, not expecting where the insurgents would hit from.
5) will there be plentiful RPG's everywhere? i remember from the book (and the move /shiver ) something about durant stating that RPG's were flying all over the place, or something to that effect. RPG's i believe were used against the Rangers/Delta, so it might be a nice way to balance out the American Supremacy of Blackhawks,/LB's/M4s or m16's, with a little overwhelming rpg fire.
--EDIT--> didnt look at insurgent main base before posting this, and thus didnt see the 4 RPG's lying around on the ground. Great way of doing it, but.....more please? i just really want to be playing as an american and just have the fear of having RPG's lobbed at me from every angle if i'm flying around or moving through the city with my squad. --------
Bad example, and i'm sorry for stating this, but i played the cod4 demo in the past couple of days, and the feeling of hearing "RPG ROOFTOP!" and seeing the smoke trail 3-10 times in a minute, just gave a real sense of "omg, we're getting overwhelmed, wtf do i do now" which might just enhance the game experience for the player that little bit more that PR has been striving for.
6) This is more of a question on mechanics than actually the map, but would it be possible to make like an Insurgent 2 faction? Take the US Assault Character (the black guy) and give him like the insurgent skin with the jeans or the track jacket and nikes. That way we're actually fighting somalies, and not Ahkmed from Iran, or something to that extent. Might just be something nice to look foward to in the furture. I have no experience in making toons, but from looking at what IDF has done with Hamas/IDF soldiers, it doesnt look "too" hard to just make a new fact, same kit layouts, and just change the skin color. but that's beyond me.
7) i love the airbase. Seeing all those hummers and blackhawks lined up really gives a nice feel to the map. I just hope that their respawn timer is like the standard 10 mins so that you dont have smacktards screwing up the transportation from base --> city because blackhawks arent on a respawn timer. This also could be a nice way of justifying more RPG spawn areas to counter the overwhelming air/ground superiority.
Closing remarks: Sorry about the novel, but just thought i'd jot some ideas down real quick before i forgot them. Really good map Okita. Look forward to playing the final. Keep up the good work, doing an amazing job so far.
---EDIT 2 --> I love the trucks + .50 calls.... brings memories.....
:: Imagine a insurgent duo, a driver, and a guy on the mounted gun, driving through a street, stopping at the crossroads, where the gunner than looks right, and sees a squad of american soldiers. He opens fire, the americans fire back, bullets are exchanged, and the insurgents realize they arent going to win, and go driving off down the street.::
Just imagine that happening like all the time. i'd piss myself.
---EDIT 3--> I like all the cars scattered around, but could some of them be on fire? maybe just a nice touch?
---EDIT 4 --> Damn, i just cant get over how great those crashsites look. really topnotch, for some morbid reason, the bodies (very respectivly) add a great touch. One qusetion, wouldnt there most likely be more than 2? You have the 2 pilots, but then also dont you have the crew cheifs in the back? Might be something to look into later.
---EDIT 5 --> I somehow still drove over those flaming barricades... if they're barricading something... might want to make them harder to get over? just a thought.
I know, i'm horrible at playing the map and then writing a review, but i was playing and writing at the same time, so while i would play stuff would pop out at me. Honestly Okita, this map is amazing as is. I think it's a contender to Al Basrah truthfully. Just spice it up a bit.
Spawn cars/trucks, tons of rpg's laying around in areas that wont be too concealed from the average player. Add some grit to the map, some dust trails through the city, (ala Al Fallujah maybe?) and some trash rolling around. Blown up cars so it makes it feel like this city is in a constant state of turmoil. These are all small minor things. This map is about 80% finished from what i gathered playing it, and i'm going to continue playing it like the poor lonely soul i am, imagining i'm michael durant setting people down from blackhawks or LB's. Great Job mate, really, great job.
-Last edit i promise, but what is with the tanker out in the middle of the ocean in the punishement zone >_< i tried landing on it and almost died getting back to base. gotta do something about that! I needz to l@nDz oN mY BaTtLezShIpZez!!1!!!one!oneone!!11!

Wow. nice novel
1. gonna add more cars and stuff, it just takes forever to do, such a big area to add **** too, you know?
2. IronTaxi thought it was fixed, we'll look into it... idk...
3. IronTaxis work. I would imagine the US have it under control. I know what you mean, but with a new building going up, Im sure they are on the lookout
4. Spawn cars will be in the city, dont worry.
5. RPGs will be in the safe houses, once I get my editor to start updating objectspawner locations. And some at main base. I might add more, maybe some at main, and one in each safe house. 4 at main and one in each of the three houses? We'll see...
6. idk, mebbe? after I get fastropes in....
But seriously, right now, its not even part of PR. So I doubt thatd be worth it. Maybe if someone can reskin them for me since I will sooner or later get the Ranger DCU skins in done by RamboHunter... there could also be new INS skins, but yeah, idk, not my area... nor is mapping though...
7. Airbase was done by me inspired by IronTaxis checkpoint work. Spawn times will be standard PR settings, but arent now due to it being in testing...
Thanks for all the well thought out, constructive comments. i really appreciate them, and you did it so quickly! I only just released the file and tutorial!
Bravo.
Anyway,
Thanks a lot,
Okita
*edit* contender to al basrah, lol, you guys crack me up! But thanks, with any luck, IronTaxi and I (mainly IronTaxi) will get it there!

Okita, great work! it's improved so much since the last version
I don't know where to start, it's just a great map to play on.
And remember , there were 'green zones' in the city for the UN troops, and the Bakara Market was in the center of the city, so i guess you could just say thet the checkpoint was just part of the green zone.
And i was planning on making some INS skins to make them fit in better.
C-2 this is 6-4, chalk deployed, moving to holding pattern. over.

Ok, Ok, many changers since the last update! Very good news, you will like, I guarantee!
Well, first off, I've been given [R-CON] status for my mapping efforts, which means access to new statics, which will be painstakingly added by me in the coming days which means a WHOLE new beautiful city with NEW statics!!!!! Im just as excited as you all! Many things will stay the same, but the inclusion of new statics will make it MUCH more unique and give me MANY new ideas! Yay!
IronTaxi took my map for a few days and reworked the surrounding terrain. Giving it the master touch and making it generally more appealing! Mountains have been fixed, general land is changed, the works... or so he tels me. i have yet to see it because... well, it leads in to my next point:
third, Rhino is retexturing the map! He is gonna make it look leet and amazing and worthy of us playing on it! he's not gonna do everything, but he'll get the base textures in so I can go from there. Excited!? I know I am.
So, once Rhino gets it back to me (hopefully in a few days? sometime next week?) I will begin uber leet construction mode on the map and get it in gear. Its the beginning of the end! Well, maybe getting CLOSE to the beginning of the end here folks, get ready!
I'll post pics of the map when I get it back for y'all.
Till then, enjoy flying around the crappy outer land, crappy textured one that i supplied you with!!1
Yay,
OkitaMakoto
