I think people should do 2 man engy squads and then lock the squad at 2. Then they can follow the commander around (get rides in the commander truck) and help him build stuff.
I say lock to a 2 man squad, cuz really you don't need more than 2 engys. Even 1 could do. And then you don't end up with 4 more squad members that have a bad SL - because an commander ***** engy squad leader is NOT in good places for those other 4 guys to attack or defend anywhere.
I think it would be cool if this became a standard thing.

My recommendation is a 3 man engineer squad. Or maybe 2 engineers and one rifleman.
I say 3 because that's the requirement to request any kit like HAT or even LAT if a vehicle comes by to try to destroy the cmdr assets. I'm not saying that they need to stay with the kit all the time, just be available to request one if they get threatened.

If possible I normally tend to use a defensive squad as the CMDR squad. If that squad does not have an engineer kit availble then i ask (VOIP) all nearby squad leaders to tell one of their dead guys to respawn my pos with that kit.
It ...mostly works out with a single player spawning.
Have only a few times tried that 3 - 5 guys spawn with that kit...
The command post it self can mostly be set-up and repaired by the commander him self so although an engineer is handy when deploying a CMDR post from start its not necessary.
Ive tried to play an entire round with a commander "slave" and i cannot recomend it. The person who had to follow me the entire round had a very low fun-factor.

Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

I often have a full CO squad. If you then defend a bunker, and another squad (preferably 2) defends the flag area, you have a reasonable chance of actually keeping the bunker up.
Usually though the friendlies will think "oh we have a whole squad defending this flag, lets leave them alone and go fight on the fringes of the map without actually getting on that flag while we lose all our valuable CO assets, lets pwnnn!!".
Then I curse together with my trusty construction workers and lose them game gloomily.
