Redskin, I'm afraid I can't help you on that front, but I do want to say welcome to the forums! I hope someone here can help you out.

Hey and welcome to the forums! :D

with any luck this topic should help you out :)

also when you get PR working I suggest you read the PR Guide as PR is very diffrent from vBF2 and has a very steep learning curve so it dose help alot to read the guide first to understand about Request Kits, Commander deployables etc :)

Have fun and hope this helps! :)

Could you list the Run Time Error number? Also any run time library reference.

Runtime errors usually occur during some stage of memory access during the execution of the program. Most likely loading a reference library and might indicate either a programming bug that effects you hopefully one-off (try reinstalling PR) or a corrupt or bad memory stick (reseat your Ram). Worse case scenario if its as a result of a viral infection, you'll have to reinstall your operating system.

Since you got a runtime and not an actual debugging error, I'm thinking maybe your memory is corrupt or you had a major memory error. Have you had any other strange occurrences lately besides trying to load PR? Specifically since you said it happens when you try to play on-line, have you gotten the error loading your browser?

At any rate your going to have to be more specific about your system and the actual error...and welcome to the community Redskin.

Post by justman2005 »

i have been playing PR fine for about a month and a bit and all of a sudden a couple days ago i have been getting CTD's every time i try to join a multiplayer server, i have re-installed project reality a couple times but im really reluctant to re-install bf2 as i've lost my copy and i really dont want to have to buy another, could someone pleeeeeease help me! its been almost 3 days without PR and im starting to have withdrawel symptoms.

here is a copy of the error

microsoft visual C++ library runtime error
program :D :\program files\EA games\battlefield 2\BF2.exe

this application has requested the runtime to terminate it in unusual way

(btw im also a pretty good mapper and pretty fluent with the bf2 editor, atm im planning a small 16-32 size infantry map which is based on close quarter guerilla warfare, just wondering if there is any demand for a map like this)

Welcome to the forums and allow me to be the first to tell you that the shovel is for building commander assets, clubbing baby seals, and digging you and your teammates graves. ;)

Hey justman, I feel your pain brother. here's a couple ideas:

- First because it's the easiest thing I can think of and because it's a coding conflict, I'm going to assume your using Vista and take a stab at that:

Right click on the PR desktop Icon and choose Properties/Compatibility then select XP(sp2 if you are running that) if in fact PR has a mode for XP as it was/is default OP for BF2.

- Not that ^ Ok then a question; have you installed any Microsoft updates lately? or any other programs, services or drivers? If they weren't critical or needed, remove them, revert back or use System Restore.

- If your using .NET association version 1.0 for the ATI Catalyst Control Center or any other non critical need, delete it then reinstall or do away with it until it's called for. (I don't use SP2 and .NET because of various conflicts I've personally encountered) and there is a known issue caused by a known bug in the Microsoft C++ compiler for .NET version 1.0 It's about going from Unmanaged to Managed C++ code in .NET, here's the link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... US;Q309694

- Lastly, and it's a lot more complicated; If it's an WIN32 coding error, to pin-point the problem, try debugging the process next time and check the call stack of the thread that is showing the message to see exactly where the conflict lies. there are a bunch of really easy to use debugging programs available.

...or re-buy BF2 and try a clean install, that's what I would do ;)

(don't have vista btw) but took your advice and bought another copy, worked a treat. i think it was the WIN32 files as i got the same advice from my I.T. teacher at school. thank you so johnny  , you've saved my summer holidays! these are the only forums that i have ever been on where i have gotten same day technical support and have recommended and given project reality to 5 of my mates. I'm so impressed with this community and can't thank you guys enough. cant wait for the very schmexy looking 7.0 update and will definitely be one of the first to download it.

think its time i got back to the :firing:
take it easy
